A natural-born wolf, Ghost was powerful and could have forced him out of her spirit. But he was family. He was papa. The word escaping her lips shook him.

Her wolf stilling under his hands. Her body was still tense but no longer trying to change as her whimpers changed to a ragged, breathless scream. Yet still her wolf stayed trembling under his hand.

With the bloody bullet held up for Hyde’s inspection, the doctor let out a sigh.

“.308 round. coated in silver cross engraving. Definitely one of the Inquisition’s,” popping it into the tray as he moved to wash his hands.

“She will heal now. Some sleep, a meal and she will be right as rain,”

A light sweat drenching her whole body as she shook uncontrollably. The apprentice laid a heavy blanket of thick wool over her, his hands so gentle.

Ghost was loved by most of his hard ass Titans. The only child that any of them had doted on. She was the princess of the pack and knew it, but she never let it get in the way of her duties. A warrior’s heart beat inside her chest and she had fought hard to be seen as one of them. A warrior, A Titan.

Looking up, he gave the Doc a nod. He had been dubious about Livingstone when he had first arrived. Picked by Draven, he had barely survived his wolf attack. But survive he did, and he had grown to become an invaluable part of the pack. Even if the poor man hated every part of it.

“Thanks Doc,”

The Doc gave him a nod and shrugged his shoulders. “Could have been much worse. “

Settling back on his stool, Hyde met Scythe’s gaze. “Go, shower. Thorn has taken over your shift at the club. We will talk later.”

Watching the Doc and his assigned student clean the surrounding room, Hyde’s hand tightened around hers. Leaning forward, he pressed his lips against her forehead. He could hear her heart beat growing stronger in her chest. She was finally stable. Her body doing what it needed to. Healing the damage that the rifle had inflicted. By late tonight she would in all likely hood be back on her feet.

He stood and tenderly laid her hand next to her soft cheek. Before striding out the door.

He had been planning on keeping a low profile. Draven had wanted him sidelined. He had wanted to know why. But now, with Talia in genuine danger, he would not sit out of the game.

Making his way down the stairs and out the front doors, he stalked his way to his bike.

Throwing his leg over the Harley. He had to admit he was eager for a hunt. Whoever this lowly sniper was, he was mere hours away from death. The thought almost putting him in a good mood.

The bike roaring to life, Hyde pulled out towards the road for the city.

Talia had been wedding dress shopping.

His grip tightening on the handles, as rage, pure and hot, filled him at the insidious thought,

Everything in him screaming that she was his mate. His woman. He had to claim her. Breathing through the impulse, he seethed as his bike purred across the miles.

What the hell did Fang-face threaten her with, to get her to agree to marry his sadistic ass? How had he gone from whipping her to wedding her?

Talia was not someone easily cowed.

And now the Inquisition had attempted a full on hit. It reeked of desperation.

Never had he seen the notoriously secretive sect of hunters take such a brazen attack in his city. On his doorstep. Left over from an age better forgotten, excommunicated from the roman church, the Inquisition were little more than zealot murderers. Hunting down everything from vampires, lycans and Arcadians. Even a human or two, if judged evil enough.

But always hidden from the laws of society. Like their prey, they moved in the darkness, never revealing their presence. Yet something about Talia had them orchestrating a day light public hit.

What did they know about Talia to put her on their hit list?

What important fact about her life did he miss?

What the fuck didn’t he know? His fist’s tight on the handlebars.

After weeks of searching for her, he had been sure he knew everything there was to know about the witch. Where she had gone to school, the bar she worked, her last boyfriend, her best friend, blood type, license number and what she was reading on amazon.

Hitting the bridge, the city lights flickering to life as the sun sunk on the horizon.
