Scrambling backwardsoff the bed, the book dropping to the floor. Marnie moved. Her hand reaching for the balcony door handle.

Letting out a cry of pain as his arm grasped her around the waist. The force of it almost pulled her off her feet. His right hand gripped her jawline as he held her tightly against him. Claws slowly extending, pressing into the soft flesh vibrating over her racing pulse. His grip tightening enough to draw fine pinpricks of blood.

“One hint of magic,” his voice hard and unrelenting against her ear, “and I will tear out your throat and watch you bleed to death.”

Taking a shallow breath against his grip, her voice a little shaky.

“It’s against the law to attack anyone in Haven. “

Giving a humourless laugh, his voice harsh. “Since when have you cared about the law? You who betray your own kind, sell people for your own gain, and sleep with the enemy. Who the Fuck are you to talk to me about the law?”

“Is that why you’re here?” Her voice growing a little more steady. “Justice? Isn’t that a little hypocritical coming from you, of all people? You didn’t get your reputation for being one of the good guys, Hyde. We are more alike than you think.”

“There are some lines I don’t even cross,”

“Well, I do, and it paid well. So if you’re here to kill me,” moving her shoulders forward, she pressed her neck into the claws. “Then do us both a favour and hurry the hell up,”

By the gods, he wanted to. His fingers tightening around her throat at the thought. But forcing himself to relax his grip finger by finger, he eased his grip.

“You will tell me everything I want to know,” his voice a growling threat

“Or you will kill me?” She sounded almost bored as she feigned relaxation. Her pulse racing under his thumb.

“You need to offer an incentive, Hyde” swallowing under his grip, she tilted her head to look at him over her shoulder.

“Money, friendship, frequent flyer points,”

Pulling his claws away, he pushed her away from him.

“How about I don’t kill you?”

“Well, I would appreciate that” Morticia’s smooth voice filled the room as the door swung open.

Not taking his eyes off Marnie, the energy that had started to fill her hands dying out as Mortica stepped into the room.

Hydes lip twisted into a growl. “This does not concern you. “

“You bring this into my house and then tell me it dosn’t concern me?” Her accent Romanian sharpening. “You know better than that,”

“I will have my answers. And if I have to break your rules, to get them. I will,”

“I have claimed sanctuary. You can’t touch me.”

“You work for the Inquisition” he couldn’t help the snarl that twisted his features as he took a menacing step forward to glare down at her. “You are a security risk for every single guest in this building. “

“Do you have proof of that” Morticia’s voice was calm behind him

Pulling out the phone from his pocket. Hyde held it up.

If he hadn’t been looking for it, he might have missed Marnie’s sharp, indrawn breath. Her eyes widening ever so slightly before she re-schooled her features.

She was good. He had to give it to her. An accomplished liar. It must come as easy as breathing to her.

“Everything you need is on that.” Looking at Mortica, Hyde handed her the phone.

“She is a risk to Haven. A risk to the city.” His gaze swinging back to glare at the witch. “I will question her” his voice was authoritative.

Taking the phone, the vampire sighed before handing it to Cassius behind her. She placed a hand on Hyde’s arm. Looking down at her, his gaze meeting hers.
