“Not after what he’s done to you, little doe. He’s finished.”

“Heath, please…”

“Trust me, Aubree. I will never begin to risk you being harmed or vulnerable, everything I ever do will be to protect you,” he said, stopping her words from falling as two more men moved forward. They were as large as the others Heath introduced her to and she saw Wallace handing off their bags to yet another man before rejoining them. “They’re my men. This is my Alpha Squad, and the Bravo is still outside waiting to move if necessary.”

With them behind Heath, she wasn’t quite as worried. Yes, they were still outnumbered, but not even Alpha Josh’s guard was this intimidating. Not even compared to her size.

Heath pushed open the door, bringing a halt to the discussion inside the room, and Aubree moved even closer to his side, seeing all eyes fall on them. Most were merely shocked, which wasn’t surprising seeing as Heath arrived without a mark and now, he bore hers boldly on display. The loud, furious roar from the front of the room made her stomach tighten, sending a shiver of worry through her. She didn’t need to look to know it was Alpha Josh.

The quick movements, rustle of fabrics as people moved, said more than just he was headed their way.

“What the hell is this?!” Alpha Josh shouted, and Aubree glanced towards the others in the space near his table. They were all leaning away from the man, clearly in pain at the fury coming off him, but for once, she felt none of it.

“I told you, I’m your alpha now, little doe. You never have to fear him again,” Heath said, his finger gently brushing against her chin before his lips gave her a soft kiss, making Alpha Josh rage louder.

“I’ll kill you! She was mine!” he shouted, breaking loose from Luke’s hold before flying over the table towards them.

Several others in the room she didn’t know jumped up. Whether to help or get out of the way she’d never be able to tell anyone, because as quickly as they all began to move, even faster they all stopped at a low, commanding shout of ‘Stop’ from her mate.

Alpha Josh broke free from the command for a minute, moving their way once more, and Heath’s hand held onto hers tighter, his hold reassuring her she was safe, as he turned his eyes directly onto Alpha Josh.

“I. Told. You. To. STOP!” he roared at the man that’d terrified her for years, and Aubree let out a soft gasp when he fell to his knees, then onto all fours, but he didn’t begin to shift.

The power wafting off of Heath made the entire room quiver, but she felt nothing but his love surrounding her. Her eyes widened, unable to believe he could overpower all of the council members there, even their territory alpha who didn’t look any more pleased to see her next to Heath than Alpha Josh had.

“Now Heath, if you don’t let up, you’ll kill him, then how can he rot in a cell for the rest of his miserable life?” a soft voice questioned from behind them, and Aubree glanced back, seeing a woman with blue sparkling eyes moving their way with ease, while the man behind her moved a hint slower.

Her eyes reminded her of Heath’s beyond the color being a bit brighter, and Aubree gave Heath’s hand a squeeze, bringing his attention off of Alpha Josh and onto her as the woman reached them. A rustle of movement told her that was a dumb thing to do, but before either she or Heath could react, the woman had Alpha Josh by the neck and down on a knee again.

“That’s why she’s the true leader of the Alpha Squad,” Heath said, smiling as the guards moved forward, cuffing Alpha Josh. She breathed in deep when they released him, certain he’d break the cuffs, but Heath gave her another smile, shaking his head at her. “The cuffs are spelled. A gift from Mason’s mate. They take away all shifter strength when on, leaving the wearer weaker than a human.”

“What is going on?” a man in the room questioned, drawing Aubree’s attention towards him. He was an older man, Harold, who’d been to the packhouse plenty of times in the past. He’d even seen Alpha Josh beating her with a belt once or twice and never stopped him. Now he was giving Heath’s sister a sneer that said he knew her. She was still confused about Heath’s comment of her being the true leader of the Alpha Squad, but clearly this was the Katya that he’d told her about, talked so lovingly about that she’d been mildly jealous.

I love you beyond measure, little doe.Heath’s words soothed all of the feelings the memories brought her, and she slid into his full hold, wrapping her arms as far around him as she could reach.

‘I love you too, big guy.’ She grinned further as his eyes sparkled with deep unmistakable hunger for her.

“I said, what is going on?” Harold repeated, still sneering at Katya. “You have no authority to cuff anyone, especially with those…witch’s things.”

“Shut up, Harold, and sit your paid-off ass down,” Katya said giving the man a glare in return and Aubree fought to keep from laughing. “He’s not the only one we’re cuffing today.”

“What are the charges you’re bringing against Alpha Morrow?” another man asked as Harold sank into his chair while their territory alpha looked towards the door.

“Abuse of power over his pack in addition to illegal imprisonment of a pack member,” Katya said shooting a soft smile her way, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, making her worry a hint.

“In addition to the murder of my mate’s mother just over three years ago, right before she turned fifteen,” Heath said, and Katya’s head whipped back towards them, another smile sliding onto her lips when Heath gave her a nod, and this time when the smile turned to her, everything inside Aubree warmed. “He forbade anyone to speak of my mate’s real age. Forbade her from leaving the packhouse, from attending any events, any runs, to attempt to force his claim on her. She ismymate. Made for me by the mother. Put in front of me by the stars that aligned to have the summit here, in time for me to find her before her birthday. Thisman,” he scoffed using the word, “abused her, multiple times over the years, the last two days ago, where he was barely stopped from putting his mark on herbeforeher coming of age. If you want proof, ask the pack to speak, now that he can’t order their silence, butIdo not need proof. My sister does not need proof beyond the word of my mate.”

“You can’t just…” Harold began, and Katya cut him off with a smirk.

“Need I remind you, exactlywhowe are?” she stated, and Aubree’s eyes slid to Heath’s silently asking him what she meant. “This summit is over. Nothing discussed will be used in our dealings with the human world and that is by decree of the Alpha Regent. Now…are you going to leave willingly, or do I have to remind you all why my brother and I are heads of the Alpha Regent’s guards?”

Aubree’s breath stuck in her throat for a moment before her eyes followed the men that moved through the space quickly, cuffing not only Harold, but also the territory alpha Paul, and another alpha she’d never liked, Kent. Of the three, Paul struggled the most, and it was amazing to see Katya’s speed as she moved through the space, putting him down against the table before the guards cuffed him.

Aubree shook her head, turning back to Heath who didn’t seem at all bothered to let her handle it and she gave his hand a tug, pulling his eyes down to her. “Heath…”

“I know I didn’t tell you, but I didn’t want you to run before I knew you were truly mine,” he said, reaching down to pick her up. He held her tightly against him and she couldn’t stop the smile or the kiss she gave him when Alpha Josh shouted in fury seeing Heath hold her.

“So, you’re not just a regular alpha?” she asked, winding her legs around his waist. Her ankles barely met but she knew he’d never drop her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, enjoying the looks that raced through his eyes.
