“No, little doe. I’m far from being a regular alpha,” he stated, and she nodded, smiling as she laid her head on his shoulder with a content sigh.
“Then I guess you’d better take me home and show me what it means to be your mate,” she mused, giggling when his face fell into her neck, kissing his claim on her.
“With pleasure, little doe,” he whispered into her ear, before moving them to the front doors of the packhouse.
She let out another little giggle when the two guards at it quickly stepped aside. The brightness of the sun made her eyes water for a moment, and she closed them, breathing in the fresh air as she tipped her head back, letting the sun shine on her face. Heath stopped, his hands gentle on her and she peeked her eyes open, seeing him looking at her in awe.
“Your smile is warmer than this,” she whispered to him, loving the kiss he gave her, before they moved to a vehicle, and he slid in, still holding her.
They didn’t move and she glanced towards the front as the door reopened in the huge limo type SUV, and she saw Katya and the other man get into it with her. The way he touched Katya, told her it was her mate Brian, and she flushed a hint as Katya’s attention turned over to them as she straddled Heath’s lap.
“I guess you’re going to be thanking Momma now for making Dad make you come to this summit, aren’t you?” Katya said as Heath lifted her with ease, settling her to sit over his lap rather than into the seat next to him.
“Half a dozen or so more grandbabies should do the trick,” Heath stated, pulling a laugh from Katya and her cheeks flushed further as he kissed her again. It was more than a soft little kiss, it showed her just how much he wanted her once more, and she sank into it, wanting that just as much.
“She really is perfect for you. Now you’ve got something else to admit, don’t you?” Katya added when they parted, and her brows wiggled towards Heath making him grumble a bit. “What was that? I didn’t quite catch it.”
“I get it now, okay?” Heath said holding Aubree even tighter to him. “I didn’t know she wasn’t eighteen yet when we met. If I had…”
“You would have called me back and told me to not worry about Tyler spending the summer with you or you thinking about taking a mate, any mate so you wouldn’t be such an old grump anymore?” Katya teased him and Aubree couldn’t help but giggle at it.
“Exactly, but I didn’t touch her until she was mine, so I’m still not apologizing for going after him for not keeping his hands to himself,” Heath warned, and Brian shrugged, pulling Katya closer to him.
“You would have if you’d been anywhere else, I’m sure,” Brian said, and Heath shook his head no surprising her.
“Why not?” Aubree asked him, her brows lifting curiously.
“Because if you were anywhere else, I’d have known you weren’t quite eighteen and spent the last week doing exactly what I have been, but at least knowing that I’d be able to mark you as mine very soon.”
“And what exactly have you spent the last week doing?” Katya asked and Aubree couldn’t stop the giggles at the expression that crossed Heath’s face. “I swear, they can’t even talk about sex around their little sister. When you have babies, especially girls, you’ll have to make sure he’s far, far away before you tell them anything about what to expect when they find their mates.”
“Sounds like all the females in this family will need to get together to explain things to the girls when their dads aren’t around,” Aubree mused glancing from Heath to Brian’s tight expressions.
“We can do it during a girls only weekend or something one of these days,” Katya agreed bringing a protest to Heath’s lips. “What?”
“You are not going to be telling our girls about the birds and the bees when you’re telling your girls. They’ll be far too young for that,” Heath grumbled.
“Kami’s two and based on the look of things, you’ll be having one very shortly,” Katya said with a grin and shrug at him. “That’s not that far off in age.”
“We’re having a boy first, then she can have a girl after that if she wants, so yes, they’ll be further off in age than that,” Heath warned, and Aubree couldn’t help but laugh softly at his expression.
“We’ll see,” Katya said airily before giving them a slightly more serious look. “The rest of the guards are bringing the men out to meet the planes. They’ll put them on mine, and we’ll go with you on yours to get home faster. Mama and Papa are likely nearly to Momma and Dad’s with the kids already. As soon as I found the power limitation statutes, I knew the bastard was done for and that you’d want him either dead or torn down to size, so I called Dad and let him know what was going on with him. Not that you were thinking of claiming Aubree as your mate just that we found something we could use to nail Joshua Morrow with finally.
“That’s when I started digging to see if I could find anything else to bring against him, and those idiots were using their council email addresses to talk about the illegal shit they were doing,” Katya added pulling Heath’s brow upward a hint. “Took most of the night to find it, but none of them are walking away from this.”
“Thanks, by the way,” Brian said, shooting Heath a little glare. “I was anticipating a sleepless night for an entirely different reason with the kids at Lois and Shane’s, so you owe me.”
“You’ve had fifteen years with her so don’t give me that bullshit look,” Heath retorted but Aubree saw the smirks on their faces and knew they were just egging one another on rather than being truly angry.
“What did the others do?” Aubree asked, snuggling further into Heath’s arms as his lips brushed kisses to her temple. “And what did you mean by Katya being the true Alpha Squad leader?” she added to him, letting him see the fire he was building inside her as she glanced back at him.
“We have five lead squadrons of guards. They’re led by the top five ranking members of the regent’s pack,” Heath said, and her brows knitted together in question. “Technically Katya belongs to the Hartman pack as well since she’s his mate,” he mused nodding his head towards Brian, “but as the daughter of the alpha regent, she’ll always belong to our pack as well. Just as the twins also belong to their mate’s packs, but also ours.”
“And Katya’s one of the squad leaders?” she said, not entirely shocked after seeing her move so quickly back in the packhouse, but it was still a bit surprising.
“When she’s acting in an official alpha regent capacity, she’s the Alpha Squad leader, and I move down to being the Bravo Squad leader,” Heath said, and Aubree couldn’t help but let out a little gasp at that. “She won the position when she was almost twenty-one and has held it for the last nearly sixteen years.”
“So, she beat you once…” Aubree’s words stopped when Heath and Brian both let out laughs and she glanced over towards Katya, seeing the smile on her lips.
