Rayne turned to Peyton. “Is it okay if I do this?”

“What?” Peyton’s brow wrinkled in confusion. “Of course. He asked. He obviously wants to know.”

“Why wouldn’t it be okay?” Smitty asked.

“Long story.” Rayne waved her hand effectively brushing off the question. She turned to Ryan. The corners of her eyes crinkled slightly as her expression softened. “Yours looks good. You definitely have a guarded energy, but your aura is warm and clear. Can I take your hand?”

“Uh, yeah sure.” Ryan slid his hand across the table.

Rayne picked up his hand and closed her eyes. After several moments, she opened them. She looked at Peyton, smiled and nodded as if some silent communication passed between the two women. Ryan shifted uncomfortably. He wasn’t even sure if he believed in all this crap, and suddenly he was nervous about what she might say she’d felt.

“So, what’s your read on our boy here?” Pete rubbed his hands together. “Is he good?”

“I’d say you are hardworking, determined. Probably a bit of a perfectionist.” Rayne studied him. “Loyal and warm, but don’t trust people easily.”

Ryan shifted in the seat, looking for an exit.Jesus.

“Holy shit.” Pete’s mouth dropped open. “You got all that from his aura, or whatever?”

“His aura, his energy.” Rayne fiddled with her beaded bracelet. The little rocks clicked together as she spun it on her wrist. “It’s not an exact science or anything, more of a feeling.”

“It’s pretty bang on,” Pete said. “I’ve never heard of this stuff before but damn.”

“Do you have like a card or something? Because I am totally coming to see you,” Kendall leaned forward, clasping her hands on top of the table. “That’s amazing.”

“Just wait until you have a treatment.” Peyton’s shoulders drew up and she closed her eyes like she was getting all cozy. “Mmm.”

Rayne blushed, then shyly reached into her purse and handed Kendall a card.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” Andy’s voice interrupted.

Peyton tensed beside him. Ryan wanted to wrap his arm around her and pull her closer to him to get her as far away from Andy as possible, but he didn’t. Couldn’t. She wasn’t really his to protect, and from what he’d learned about Peyton in the past few weeks, she was strong enough to stand on her own two feet. He didn’t know anything about auras, but mucky and gross was a good way to describe the other man.

“It’s nice to see you, Peyton.” Andy tried to push himself closer to her by leaning in front of Rayne.

Rayne puffed up her body. “Sorry, can you move back a bit? You’re blocking my drink.”

Andy glared at her but didn’t move. Rayne placed her hand near Andy’s shoulder and flicked her hand like he was an annoying gnat or something. “Seriously dude, boundaries. A little space please.”

Ryan bit back a laugh. Rayne might look all ethereal and shy, but the woman had some balls he’d give her that.

Andy scowled at Rayne as he stood up, then honed in on Peyton again. “What are you doing here?”

“Having a drink?” Peyton replied.

“I see that but, why are you here?”

Oh, fuck this shit. Ryan cupped the back of Peyton’s neck. “Because I asked her”

When Peyton leaned into him, resting her weight against him, he breathed a sigh of relief. When he’d touched her, he hadn’t known whether she’d welcome the support or elbow him in the gut.

Anger radiated off Andy as he glared at him. Well, screw him. He was the one who’d cheated on his wife and needed rescuing. It’s not like he had anyone but himself to blame for this situation.

The blonde from the pool table walked up and saddled up beside Andy. “Simon.” She pressed her breasts against Andy’s arm.

“Yeah.” Andy absently flicked a glance at the blonde before glaring back at Ryan. And just to rub a little salt in the wound and because he could, Ryan teased her earring with his fingers as he continued to cup the back of her neck. Peyton shivered beneath his touch, and from the way Andy’s nostrils flared he’d seen the way her body reacted.

“When are you coming back? It’s lonely over there without you,” the blonde whined.
