“Well, since the broken bed thing didn’t work. We need to go big.” Jeff reached into his pocket and pulled out the most beautiful platinum diamond ring she’d ever seen.

She covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes darting back and forth between Max and Jeff.

“Dad said if you were married you’d have to live with him,” Max announced.

“I did say that,” Jeff agreed. His eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked at their son. He cleared his throat. “Kia, you turned my life upside down in the best possible way when you came back into my life.”

“That’s ‘cuz of me,” Max said.

“Sure is, bud.” Jeff put his finger against his lips. “This is the part where you should be quiet and let me try to sweet talk your mom. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll bring you in as the closer. Deal?”

Kia giggled as she watched Jeff negotiate silence from an almost six-year-old.

“Deal.” Max nodded in agreement.

Jeff scooted forward on his knees and took her hand. “Where was I? Oh yeah.” He cleared his throat. “I always knew I’d get married someday. Have the wife and kids. And yes, we did that a little backward.”

She widened her eyes and nodded. That’s for sure.

He smiled. “But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Seeing you and Max. Getting to know you both made me realize how much I’d missed, and I quickly knew I didn’t want to miss another second with either of you. I’ve never met anyone like you. You amaze me every day. You’re loyal, you’re fierce, and there is no one I’d rather go into battle with than you.” He set the ring against her finger and looked up at her face.

Tears streamed down her cheeks, and she wiped them away.

“Will you marry me?”

“Absolutely yes.”

Jeff jumped up and wrapped his arms around her. His lips lightly touched hers.

“So I don’t need to close?” Max asked.

She burst out laughing. “How about we seal the deal with a family hug?”

“Kay.” Max hopped up and Jeff hoisted him into the air. Max placed his hands on either side of Jeff’s face. “It’s a good thing you had me here to close,” he whispered in his ridiculously loud whisper.

“Good thing.” Jeff’s blue eyes shimmered with unshed tears as he looked at her.

Kia pressed her lips gently against Jeff’s mouth. “Very good thing.”

“Eww,” Max groaned.

She threw back her head and laughed. Breaking her bed might just be the weirdest engagement she’d ever heard of, but nothing could have been more them.

I don’t know about you but I’m loving Gonzo and really want to see him find his forever person. For a sneak peek at his bookHitting the Gapkeep flipping the page.

Sneak Peek of Hitting the Gap

Nope, notachance. There was no way anyone he cared about was living in this dump, especially not a woman. Maybe that made him sexist, but at this moment he didn’t care.

Gonzo eyed the run-down apartment complex with the overflowing dumpster, the peeling paint, and big pieces of broken concrete on the path. The place looked like it should have a big, condemned sign slapped to the wall instead of for rent.

What had Bailey been thinking, wanting to move here? This was quite possibly the worst neighborhood in the city. Even if money was tight, there were safer places to live.
