With his eyes on Vivian, Aiden took off one of his gloves and touched Vivian’s hand just above her glove. Electricity crackled. “I’d like to talk to you sometime?”

Warily, she looked at him. “What about?”

“Well, the electricity we seem to generate between us for one.”

She quickly lifted the cup of hot chocolate to her lips. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He leaned in. “Yeah, you do,” he whispered close to her ear. She caught her breath audibly. The small sound went straight down to his crotch. Damn, she was killing him. “May I take you to dinner tomorrow night?”

It was freezingcold—the steaming cup of hot chocolate didn’t help against the cold—but a mere whisper from this man heated Vivian’s blood within seconds.

“You’re leaving in a week,” she finally got out. “There is no point.”

“I don’t agree. I think we have a lot to talk about. Apart from the fact that there is a very obvious spark between us, I want to talk to you about something else, as well.”

“What else is there to talk about?”

“I’ve looked you up online.”

Shock rendered her speechless for a second, and she could only stare at him. Ever since they’d arrived in Marietta, she’d known this would happen at some point. Somebody would do a search and find the newspaper article. Of course, he would’ve done a search on her—he was a journalist after all.

She was so upset, her mouth moved, but she was unable to produce a sound. Blindly, she turned away.

He touched her arm. “Vivian, please. The article is a lousy piece of writing without any substance. I want to know what really happened.”

“Why? You don’t know me. When you leave, you’ll never see me again.”

“You’re right, I don’t know you. But I do know, contrary to your behavior the first time I met you, you have compassion, especially for kids.” He touched her face; electricity crackled, making him smile. “I also know you’re beautiful and so sexy I can’t see straight when I’m around you.”

At his words, the smoldering fire in her belly ignited, but inhaling on a shudder, she tried to ignore it. “Who gave you the right to snoop into my life? How would you feel if I look you up online?”

He pressed his lips together and looked away.

“What? Oh, so you also have something you’d rather not talk about?” she taunted him.

Those blue eyes turned on her again. “We’re talking about what happened to you. Let’s have dinner.”

She was so angry, she struggled to speak. “I don’t want to have dinner with you, damn it. Go snoop in someone else’s life.”

“Vivian, please…”

“I should’ve known you had an ulterior reason for agreeing to join us today.” Shaking, she turned her back on him, frantically looking for Annie and Mitch.

“If that’s what you want, I’ll go, but think about it. I may be able to help.”

Vivian didn’t turn around to look at him again, and within seconds, she knew he’d left. Her body had stopped humming. Seriously?

Annie had seen her and hurried closer. “Viv, are you okay?” She asked behind her, touching her arm. “What happened?”

Vivian had to swallow a few times before she could speak. “Apparently Aiden did an internet search on me.”

Annie inhaled sharply. “I don’t believe it. I thought he was here for a feel-good story.”

“Well, he’s a journalist, and he smelled a story.”

“Did he say anything else?”
