He cupped her face, electricity crackled. “Let’s see if we can do this without going up in flames.” The words were whispered against her lips, sending her already hot blood to boiling point in seconds.

“Aiden…” she got out just before his warm, wet mouth closed over hers. Coconut, a hint of bergamot, and a unique male smell surrounded her, rousing all her senses. Beneath her fingers, muscles rippled, the heat radiating from his body seeped through her pores, streaking through her bloodstream until it reached every single organ. The only sound in the quiet room was their ragged breathing.

He deepened the kiss, his tongue parting her lips before it lazily slid into her mouth where her tongue was eagerly waiting to join his. She was burning, burning, her heart beating frantically in her chest.

Gulping in deepbreaths, Aiden buried his face at her throat, his fingers tangled in the silkiness of her hair. His control was slipping fast; he needed a moment. His lips had found the velvety texture of her throat, though, and he simply had to investigate, to savor, to taste, and within minutes, he was again struggling to keep his sanity.

Vivian was boneless, pliant, fitting into his arms as if she’d always been there. Sliding his hands down her sides, he reveled in her softness, her tantalizing curves, her sexy, toned lines.

As he brought his hands up again, he brushed against her breasts. Her soft whimper reverberated right down to his toes. Gathering her closer, he deepened the kiss. She was all woman, sexy as hell, and driving him closer to losing all control by the second.

A sound finally penetrated the sensuous fog surrounding him. He lifted his head. Vivian looked as stunned as he was feeling. Her mouth was swollen, wet with his kisses, her eyes darkened by passion.

“It’s my phone,” she got out and turned around to pick up her bag. She dropped the bag a few times, and by the time she’d found her phone, it had stopped ringing. “It’s the hospital. I’ll have to call them back.”

While she talked on the phone, Aiden inhaled deeply, trying to find his equilibrium. He’d been unable to help her find her phone, his legs unable to move. At thirty-four, he’d kissed many women, but no kiss from his past came close to the one he’d just shared with the gorgeous doctor. It hadn’t been simply a kiss; they’d shared much more than only lips.

Vivian turned back as she put her phone away. “My coat… I must get to the hospital. There’s been an accident.”

“I’ll take you.”

Chapter Nine

It was closeto sunrise when Vivian finally left the ER. She was dead on her feet. All she could think of was a hot bath and bed. Fortunately, she had the day off. She was getting her phone out of her bag to phone Annie to come and pick her up, when she saw the lone figure lying on one of the couches in the waiting room.

Her throat tightened. It was Aiden. He’d walked her to the doors of the ER last night, but she thought he’d gone back home.

Flabbergasted, she looked down at the big man sleeping on a hospital couch, waiting for her. Her heart sighed. What was she going to do about him? He’d kissed her into another orbit in Janice’s living room, and right through the long night while mending broken bones and stitching up patients, the warm look in his eyes and memories of those few minutes in his arms had kept her going.

Blue eyes opened, and in one movement, his was up, his arms going around her. “You okay?” He brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes.

For a moment, she leaned against him, drinking in his warmth, his comfort. “I’m okay, just tired. Oh, dear, I just remembered, I didn’t let Annie and Mitch know…”

“I’ve sent a text. I had to let Janice know where I was, so texted Annie, as well.”

“You have Annie’s cell phone number?”

“She left a few business cards with Aunt Janice. I took one, thinking I could do some marketing for her when I’m back in Portland.”

His words were like an ice bucket being emptied over her head. Of course, he was going back to Portland.

She turned around quickly. “Thanks for waiting for me; it really wasn’t necessary.”

Without a word, he took her hand and walked her to his car.

This time, neither one of them were startled by the quick electrical buzz.

Aiden put hishand on Vivian’s leg as he drove away from the hospital. He had this overwhelming need to keep touching her as if she’d disappear if he wasn’t making physical contact with her.

“About last night…”

“I don’t usually kiss strange men. It was probably the dim lights, the nice food… Forget about it—I already have…”

He didn’t wait for her to finish her sentence. He’d stopped the car and had unfastened her seatbelt before she’d stopped talking. Her eyes widened.
