I checked to ensure Brayleigh was covered.
Lucky jerked his chin up in support, Brayleigh swaying between him and Minty.
This was my chance.
I swept Hope into my arms on the makeshift dancefloor.
She smiled up at me. Her eyes giving me exactly what I needed.
“What do you think, agapimeni?”My beloved. The one Greek word I came back with. My knees began to quake. “Does this big public display make us Facebook official?”
“I’m not on Facebook,” she teased. “Anyways, I thought MySpace would be more your era.”
“You are cruising, little girl,” I warned her.
Truth was, she loved the cuffs. I planned to up the ante soon. I smiled down at her.
She’d like that, too.
Her eyes lit with interest, reading me like no one else ever had. “So you keep saying,” she griped. “And yet, here I am.” She held up her arms and shimmied her wrists. “Cuffless.”
I pulled her closer and brushed my knuckles over the silky soft skin of her cheek. “You along for the ride with me?”
“I am.” She swayed in my arms, her face beaming.
I did that.
I took a bracing breath, pushed everyone and everything else out of my mind.
“Then I guess I should give you this.”
Releasing her, I took a step back and dropped to my knee.
If anyone deserved a man on his knees it was Hope.
My hope.
She covered her mouth with both hands.
I pulled the box out of my pocket. “Are you excited, or horrified, at the thought of being stuck with me for eternity?”
She shook her head violently, tears springing from her eyes like a cartoon.
A wild guffaw broke free. “I’m so happy right now!”
“We can see that,” Lucky laughed.
Someone else with a big laugh chortled.
