I turn slowly and regard a man who Satan carved in his image as he stands watching me from a door set at one end of the apartment.

“Matteo.” I raise my glass to him in a mock salute and love how his eyes glitter with danger as he shifts off the wall.

Before he can even speak, I set the glass down on the table and stare at him defiantly.

“I have a business proposition for you.”

I say firmly, and he raises his eyes.

“So, you’re suddenly in business now.”

His smirk makes me shrug and I take the seat at one end of the table, pointing to the vacant chair at the other end.

“I am now in the business of being your wife.”

I regard him coolly and his amused smirk gives him a lightness I wasn’t expecting.

He takes the seat and leans forward, his arms on the table as he stares. at me with a great deal of interest flashing in his turbulent eyes.

“I take it you have some demands.”

He appears more interested than annoyed, and I nod, maintaining a cool, detached expression.

“You are a man who uses guns and sex as weapons where words would be more effective.”

“Is that so?”

He laughs softly. “I haven’t heard you complaining yet. In fact–”

He casts his eyes the length of me and grins wickedly, “I’m guessing you’ve loved every minute of it so far.”

“I have.” I fire back and his eyes widen a little, telling me I’ve surprised him.

I shrug and study my perfectly manicured fingernail.

“You see, Matteo, you have given me something I’ve wanted for some time. Freedom.”

He raises his eyes and I nod. “Despite your pathetic attempts at dominating me, they have only worked because I like it. You may have control of my body, but you will never control my mind and what’s in there isn’t as compliant as you thought it was.”

“I see.” He leans back and rubs his finger against his chin, his eyes flashing as he stares at me hard.

“So, here is the deal. It’s obvious you need me for something, and I doubt it’s merely to fuck and humiliate me, no matter how much I’m enjoying that, by the way.”

He smirks and if anything, he likes what I’m saying due to the amusement on his lips and the lust in his eyes.

“You showed me a photograph on the plane.”

He sits up straighter as I say thoughtfully, “The face was familiar, but I can’t remember a name. The fact that my father allowed you to, shall we say, employ me, tells me it fits with his own plans.”

“Do you know what they are?”

Matteo says with interest, and I shake my head.

“Not yet, but if we work together and pool our knowledge, I’m sure we can figure it out.”

“Is that your business proposition?”

He appears almost disappointed, and I smile, leaning forward and fixing him with a lust-filled gaze.
