“So what are you offering me?” I ask, intrigued and beaming from the compliment.

“Maybe something with more responsibility. We’ve been talking about hiring an overseer of all the locations. Like a regional manager-type position. You’d be in charge of popping into all the locations, settling problems, and collecting the monthly reports, which you would then conglomerate into one big report. Right now, our administrative assistant Tricia does it, but we want to take the responsibility off her and give it to one person to handle. It will also free up time for the CEOs to not have to stop by the locations so frequently.”

I grin. “I think Roman likes stopping by.”

He smiles a rare smile. “I agree. But with his new family, he’s had to take time off for things like doctor appointments and sports things for his new son.”

“Are you officially offering me a job?” I can’t help the wide smile on my face.

“Yes, but we’d have a lot to discuss, as—”

“Quinn?” a female voice calls.

We look over to see a lady in pink scrubs calling my name.

“Guess that’s me,” I say, standing up. “I’ll be right back. Don’t you go nowhere, ya hear? I’m very interested in this proposal.”

“I’ll be here when you get back,” Lincoln confirms.

I follow the lady through the door, taking one last look behind me to see Lincoln staring at my ass. Good. Now, we’re even for the meat-gazing.

“Well, that was, uh, interestin’,” I say as I get into the car with Lucas’s help.

Lincoln slides in next to me. “What does that mean?”

“They slid my whole body into this big ol’ tube, like I was some rotisserie chicken gettin’ ready to be cooked. It was so weird.”

Lincoln chuckles and I hear Lucas let out a laugh, too.

“I’m sorry, I’ll stop with all the critter references. Anyway, there were these weird poundin’ noises and they let me wear headphones with music. I just had no idea it would take so long! I hope you didn’t get bored waiting on me.”

“Not at all. I actually got all caught up on emails,” Lincoln says, raising the phone for effect. “I am hungry though. You?”

Is he asking me out on a date? No, Quinn, he’s a man. He’s just hungry.

“I could eat.”

“What do you like?” Lincoln asks as Lucas looks at us anxiously in the rearview mirror.

“Oh, I’ll eat anything. I’m not picky at all. I do mean that. I can always find somethin’ to eat anywhere. Well, except liver and onions. Even if my memaw makes them, I still don’t like them.”

He laughs. “No liver and onions. Got it.” Lincoln looks at his driver. “Take us to the nearest Thai place.”

“Tie?” I ask. “Oh… Thai food. Yummy.”

“Right away, sir,” Lucas says.

After a short drive, we arrive at a large restaurant, and we go in. Lucas again waits in the car.

“Two please,” Lincoln says, and we’re led to a small corner table.

“Thanks,” I say to the lady, who places two menus and water glasses on the table. Then I look at Lincoln. “Does Lucas always stay in the car and just wait? Why not invite him in to eat?” I hope I’m not overstepping, but I’m clueless about this lifestyle and I think rich people are weird.

He shakes his head. “He won’t. I’ve invited him before. He’s perfectly content to sit in the car and eat lunch he brought or go to a drive-thru. He entertains himself on his phone, watching movies or reading the news.”

That makes me feel a little better. “Oh, okay.” I look over the menu. “What do you like here? I think I’ve only had this kinda food once before.”
