“Any regrets?” I ask breathlessly.

She shakes her head. “Heck no. I’m so happy you did! It’s just been a while, but then I realized it’s just like ridin’ a bike. I’m back in the saddle, baby!”

I laugh at her. “I chose now to kiss you because we have an appointment to get you to, and I knew if we didn’t, I’d throw you onto your bed and we’d never get anywhere.”

“Good call,” she says, shutting the door behind her.

“Lock it,” I instruct.

“I know, I know. So damn bossy,” she grumbles.

“You love it,” I whisper in her ear before leading her to the car and helping her in.

Twenty-Three

Quinn

I wince and close my eyes, ready for the needle.

“Take a deep breath, Quinn. It’ll only hurt for a second,” the doctor says.

“I got you,” Lincoln whispers, holding my hand.

I hiss and whimper, squeezing Linc’s hand tight, when the needle goes straight into the area in my shoulder that hurts the most. My eyes water, and one tear escapes and rolls down my cheek. The needle feels like it stays in there forever before the doctor removes it.

The nurse hands me a tissue, and I wipe my eyes. “Thank you. I’m usually as tough as a one-eared alley cat, but I’m nothin’ but a wimpy little kitten when it comes to needles, apparently.”

“Kittens aren’t wimpy,” Lincoln says with a chuckle. “Trust me.”

“We’re all done,” the doctor says. “That cortisone shot should give you pain relief anywhere from six weeks to six months, depending on the person. You can leave the sling off for now if you want.”

“Oh, that’s great news. Thanks, Doc.”

“Anything else we need to know?” Lincoln asks.

“No huge restrictions, just be smart. No mountain biking or swing dancing, obviously.” The doctor grins at me.

I put my hands up in surrender, but it hurts my shoulder. “You don’t have to worry about that with me. But how long ’til the pain subsides?”

“It’ll take a day or two, then you’ll notice it become less than a dull ache.”

I pull my shirt back up. “Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Do I still need to come back in two weeks for the appointment I have scheduled?”

He shakes his head. “No, come back in six. We’ll do another MRI and see how the tear is doing.”

After we exit the office, we get into the car and Lincoln suggests we get sub sandwiches and bring them back to his house to have before we lounge by the pool. I can’t wait.

My mouth drops open as we enter Lincoln’s home. I knew it would be nice, but this is over-the-top. White columns at the front, circular driveway. Big windows all around, trees, flowerbeds, and grass that looks professionally maintained.

Lincoln opens my door for me, and I struggle a little to get out of the tiny car since I only have one hand to use to propel myself out. My shoulder is stinging. I hand him my overnight bag and the food, and he helps me out.

“I’ll put it in the garage later,” he says, arming the car with the fob and walking me to the front.

He unlocks the front door and I hold back a gasp. “This is the prettiest house I’ve ever seen!”

The floors are shiny dark wood, and the kitchen is all state-of-the-art. The furniture is light-colored and looks like it shouldn’t be sat upon. Everything is decorated in shades of gray with white accents. A large window shows a glittering pool and grass in the backyard.
