He chuckles and sets the food on the counter.

Meow.

I whip around to see a little gray kitten looking up at me with big green eyes.Meow.

I bend down and put my hand out for a sniff. “Well, aren’t you the cutest lil’ thing I ever did see?”

The kitten sniffs my hand and then stares at me expectantly. I run my finger over the top of its tiny head and it hisses at me.

I laugh and stand up. “Cute little monster.” I turn and look at Lincoln. “Boy or girl?”

“Girl,” he says. “Her Majesty.” He chuckles.

“What’s her name?”

He shrugs and pulls the sandwiches out of the bag. “I just call her Kitty. I didn’t think to name her.”

“What? You’re silly. Where did you get her?”

“Found her behind a dumpster near my favorite deli. Poor little thing was dirty and skinny. I have no idea how old she is.”

“She’s tiny. Definitely under six months,” I say. “We had barn cats growing up. If you need any help with her, let me know. Although barn cats are way more feral than this pampered lil’ princess.”

“Thanks. I think I will. Lucas helped me clean her up and get her all her food, supplies, and shots. He has a few cats too, I think.”

I turn around and put my elbows on the high kitchen countertop. “You continue to surprise me every day, Lincoln Silverstone.”

His lips twitch as he sets plates on the counter. “Why’s that?”

“You rescued a kitten? I knew you had a soft side.”

He walks over and boxes me with his arms, his hands planted firmly on the countertop. “If I ever had a soft side, you bring it out in me.” His eyes search my face and then linger on my lips.

“Kiss me,” I whisper.

He wets his lips with his tongue and leans down. When he’s centimeters away from my lips, we hear,Meow.

The kitten is on the kitchen counter, demanding attention from us.

He picks her up and sets her on the floor. “I can’t get her to stop climbing up on the kitchen counter. Now I have to clean it again.”

I chuckle. “Get a spray bottle. Cats hate water. Well, most of them do.”

“Not a bad idea,” he replies.

“Follow me for more pet tips and tricks,” I drawl.

“I’m going to kiss you now,” he whispers.

When his lips land on mine, I take the time to appreciate that they are as soft as they look and that the amount of pressure is perfect. His tongue sweeps in and mine does the same to his. I rake my fingers through his very short beard and he moans into my mouth, We kiss for a few long seconds before he says, “Let’s eat first, and then go lounge by the pool.”

I nod, but I would rather go see his bedroom instead.

“That’s a sexy bikini,” Linc says, eyeing me up and down as I come out of the pool house after changing.

I look down, resisting the urge to gripe about my not-flat stomach or the dimples in my thighs, and instead say, “Thanks.”

I stare at his perfect body without an ounce of fat on it. His stomach is washboard perfect and he even has nice feet, for cripe’s sake. He wears sunglasses and holds a bottle of sunscreen.
