“I use the computer system to place an order. I do that on Thursdays, unless we are plum out.”

“Right, but what do you think happens after you put it in the computer?”

I shrug. “I dunno. The stuff just shows up the next day.”

Roman chuckles. “That’s because yours truly takes it out of the system and forwards it to our supplier, and then I instruct them to deliver it on the day you requested.”

My cheeks heat. “Oh, I guess I just thought it went straight to the distributor or somethin’. So, I’ll be doing that?”

“Yes,” Lincoln replies, still standing by the map. “But… we may move that away from you eventually and set it up so the pub managersdohave it go straight to the distributor. We are monitoring it for now to ensure they don’t over or under order.”

I resist smiling at him with hearts in my eyes.

“Keep reading,” he demands.

I look down at the paper. “Using a company vehicle, you will drop in unannounced at least three locations a week—”

“That will be at your discretion,” Nathan says. “You can knock all three out in a day, or you can spread it over three days. We’d like you to visit at least one at night, even if it’s just early evening.”

“Sure, no problem,” I reply. “Attend one store meeting once a month at the store of your choosing, ensuring all pubs are covered in a year. Review and give input on the quarterly budget for each restaurant. Check receipts weekly to ensure sales are reported accurately.” I look up at them. “That’s a lot, but once I learn it, I’m sure it’ll be easy-peasy.”

“You’re a smart woman, Quinn. We have faith in you. That’s why we hired you,” Lincoln says, and I see warmth in his eyes.

“Yes, we do,” Roman agrees. “This will free us up and let us take days off when we need them, too.”

“I bet you’ll be needin’ that soon with both y’all expectin’ babies, huh?” I ask.

Nathan nods. “Yes. You’ll really be helping us out.”

“I can’t wait to get started,” I say excitedly.

“Perfect,” Lincoln says. He looks at his brother and cousin. “I’ll give her the tour and show her around so you guys can get back to work.”

I don’t miss when they look at each other and then at Lincoln knowingly. I have a feeling they expected Tricia to do it, but he’s offering it himself.

“Oh, before we go,” Roman says, pushing buttons on his phone. “Check that out.”

He hands the phone to me where a soundless video plays. It’s the back bar of Silver Park. I look at the timestamp: 10:12 p.m. I watch closely as Liz, our night bartender, looks around, pours shots of Maker’s Mark into a glass, and downs them. She does it four times.

I look at Roman and hand him back his phone. “Wow,” was all I could think to say.

“We watched her for a week. She does not discriminate on her booze. Vodka, gin, bourbon, she just took shots when she could.”

“I’m sorry about that, I’ll fire her immediately,” I offer.

“Don’t bother, Gail’s already done it and she was walked out last night halfway through her shift.” Lincoln slides his hands into his pants pockets.

I shake my head. “Man, her cheese musta done slid off her cracker to give up a good job with a great company like this.”

“Alcoholics don’t care. We sent her off with information on local rehabilitation centers,” Roman says.

“Well, that’s just sad. I hope she gets help.”

“Us too,” Roman says, and they both leave the room.

Lincoln ushers me out of the conference room and begins introducing me to people around the office. Accountants, IT specialists, and a bunch of other positions I’ve never heard of. A few recognize me from the pub when they’ve come in to eat with their employee discount.

We arrive at a cubicle markedContractingand a woman with beautiful skin and almond-shaped eyes stands up and shakes my hand. Her clothes are skin-tight and her boobs are practically falling out of her shirt. I try not to stare at them. They are much too big for her tiny body.
