A week later, I’m riding the elevator up to the Silver Holdings offices. I’m wearing slacks and a white blouse. Gail had been so happy to accept the management position at Silver Park and started immediately. We are still looking for a night manager, but Carter offered to fill in combined with Gail doing double shifts until we can find someone. Carter insists he’d rather stay a bartender, but I have a feeling he’ll change his mind.

The doors open and I’m so nervous, but not sure why.

“Hi, Quinn,” Tricia, Lincoln’s secretary greets me. “Welcome to your first day. The guys are waiting for you in the conference room. Can I get you anything? Coffee? Tea? Water?”

“Water would be great, thank you.”

“You got it.”

We walk around a bunch of cubicles and I see an all-glass conference room where the three handsome men are sitting. My heart lurches at the site of Lincoln looking handsome and powerful in a dark suit. I’d only seen him once the past week due to all the work he’d had to stay and do, combined with me having to stay late at the pub to train Gail.

They all stand when I enter. Tricia goes to a water station and pours me a cup from the jug, then sets it in front of me.

“Do you need me?” Tricia asks them.

“No, we’re good,” Nathan replies.

She nods and walks out, closing the door behind her.

“Sit,” Lincoln says. I take a seat, setting my purse on the chair next to me while the three men sit across from me. There’s a tray of pastries and fruit at the end, and my stomach grumbles. But I’m too nervous to eat.

Linc starts, “We wanted to go over your duties before we take you on a tour of the office to meet the employees, see the different departments, and then of course to your office.”

My eyes widen. “I get my own office?”

Roman chuckles. “Of course, you do. You’re the regional fucking manager. You get a view of the entire city, too.”

“Oh, my gosh, I’m so excited I might pee myself!”

They all laugh.

I put my hands up. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I need to put a filter on my mouth. Sometimes when I’m nervous the stuff just comes tumblin’ out.”

Lincoln nods. “Just around clients and such, that would be appreciated.”

“Sir, yes, sir,” I say.

“Stop with thesirstuff,” Lincoln says. “Just call us by our first names.”

“Okay.”

“Did you see your parking spot in the garage?” Nate asks.

I shake my head. “No, I just parked in the first spot I found.”

“Near the elevators on the second floor of the parking garage are the executive parking spots. It readsRegional Manager. You park there from now on.”

“Oh, that makes me feel so special,” I say. “Thank you.”

Lincoln gets up, pulls down a map scrolled up in the wall, and removes his pen from his pocket. Making a circle without drawing on it around Denver and Colorado Springs, he says, “This is your region. We have nine pubs in the Denver metro area, and are near to opening a tenth. There are seven in Colorado Springs, Monument, and Castle Rock total. You are in charge of all of them.”

“Okay,” I reply, feeling nervous, using my fingers to count under the table. “Gosh, seventeen pubs. That’s a lot.”

“It is, but remember, they all have their own managers. We just need you to basically handle the tedious things that we don’t want to do, for lack of a better term,” Nathan says. “Those duties are all in here.” He hands me a manilla folder. “Go ahead and read them aloud so we can talk about them.”

“Sure thing.” I take a breath and blow it out. “Monthly alcohol and discrepancy reports. Customer service complaints that are above the store manager’s authority. Ordering all the food and alcohol. Ordering signs when a new brew is introduced. Replacing broken equipment and ordering new ones.” I stop. “The store manager does the ordering, though.”

“Yes, but they order it through us. Right? When you run out of say, French fries, what do you do?” Roman asks.
