Walking into the warehouse, my stomach drops. Finn cleaned up the casualties, but the damage is still being cleaned up.

“Hey boss, I’m really sorry that I pulled you away from your trip. I had no idea this was going to happen,” Finn comes up beside us, and I look over at him.

“Don’t be sorry. You were just doing what I told you to,” I assure him.

As we walk over to inspect the weapons, I glance over at Declan, who looks furious. He pulls Finn over to the side, carrying on a hushed conversation. Although I can’t make it out, I can tell it’s about whatever happened here.

My hand runs over the container that held the bomb, and I shiver. The fact that this was meant for me chills me to the bone. What if I hadn’t told Finn to have them open it, and I had been the one to do so?

Declan comes up behind me and slides his hand around my waist. “Finn is going to send all the information that has been uncovered from the explosion. It’s not a lot, but maybe we can find something.”

“Yeah, okay.” I nod and chew on my lip. “I just don’t understand. If you know anything about dealing with shipments, you know that the boss isn’t going to be here to unload it?”

“You’re right.” Declan looks down into the container and sighs. “Maybe this wasn’t meant for you?” He suggests.

“Maybe…” I trail off, not knowing what else to say.

Declan rubs my shoulders and kisses the top of my head. The gesture surprises me slightly, because in no way would my father be caught dead showing my mother any type of affection in the middle of business.‘Never show any weakness, Natalia.’He would say, "Love makes you weak.’

In a way, I believe that. If someone put Declan’s life in danger, I would gladly change places in a heartbeat.

“Come on, Finn is going to meet us at home with that information.” Declan slides his hands down my arms and to my hands, gently pulling me in the direction of the door.

“Yeah, okay,” I nod and take one last glance at the wreckage that was left behind.

The drive to the house is spent lost in thought. I wrack my brain with multiple theories of who could be behind the attack, each one coming to a dead end. Looking out the window, my eyes follow the dancing lights of the city as we whiz by. Before I know it, Declan is tapping my thigh, bringing me out of my haze.

“We are home, Nat,” he says before getting out of the car.

I climb out after him and make my way into the house. Heading straight to the bedroom, I change into a pair of leggings and a tank top. I can hear my father scolding me in my head about how that isn’t proper work attire, but right now I don’t give two shits. While we wait on Finn, I head to the kitchen and make myself a snack. We were in such a rush that I didn’t get to eat dinner before leaving the island. I’m putting the lemonade pitcher back in the refrigerator when Declan walks in.

He steals a chip off my plate and then walks over to the coffee pot. “It’s going to be a long night,” he says as he begins to brew a pot.

“It sure is,” I reply as I sit down on a barstool. I’m halfway through my sandwich when Finn comes through the door.

He looks between Declan and I before laying the file on the table. “Good news and bad news,” he looks back over at Declan and unspoken words pass between the two of them.

“Look, I don’t know what bullshit you two are hiding from me, but I want to know who did this, and I want to knownow.” The irritation is building in me with each second that passes. I am tired, my main weapons team was just killed or severely injured, and here my husband and his best friend are having silent conversations like I’m not even here.

“Well, we know who did it,” Finn says, laying papers out in front of me.

“Who the fuck is this Siorc person?” I stand and shove my plate away from me. “What do you two know?”

“Nothing.” Both men say at the same time, and I cross my arms.

“If I find out that either of you are lying to me…” I trail off leaving them to imagine what they want. “Husband or not.” I give Declan a pointed look and then look back down at the files. “Finn, start looking into Siorc. I want to know who he is. Ask around. He can’t be this discreet.”

“Yes ma’am,” he nods and pulls his phone out, sending out some messages.

Sifting through the papers, I wince looking at the photos from the explosion. It was before Finn had the bodies removed and the sight of the four men laying on the ground made my stomach churn. Yes, I’ve killed men before, but these were my men.

“Nat?” Declan questions, walking over to me. “Are you okay?”

My eyes dart to his and I slowly nod. “Yeah, I’m good. I’m just a little tired.”

“Why don’t you go lay down and I’ll wake you if we find anything.” He pulls me into a hug and kisses the top of my head. “There’s nothing you can do right now.”

“There’s plenty I can do right now,” I snap at him, shrugging out of his hold. “Find Jared Sullivan.” I look between the two men standing in front of me. “Now.”
