Declan’s eyebrows raise, but he doesn’t utter a word before he and Finn walk out of the room.

Chapter thirty-three

Declan

Natalia threatening Finn and I shouldn’t be a turn on, but damn she is hot when she is pissed. I quickly push that thought to the back of my mind though, because she would definitely shoot one of us given the chance.

“Where exactly do you think we will find this guy?” Finn asks as we head to his car. “Do you honestly think he hasn’t ditched his home and run by now?”

“No, but that’s a great place to start.” I run my hand through my hair and sigh. “If we don’t come back with this guy, you know that Natalia is going to kill both of us, right?”

“I don’t know, she’s your wife. She might have mercy on you,” he sighs sadly. “But that’d be the end of me.”

Laughing softly, I shake my head. “I would be the first to go. I know she likes you better than me.”

Finn asks about our trip to kill time as we drive to the rundown neighborhood where Jared resides. Coming to a stop in front of his house, I glance over at Finn. “Is that his car?” I ask and he nods.

We climb out of the car, guns at our sides ready to go, if need be. As we approach the front door, it swings open and Jared stands in the doorway, gun drawn.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” He asks, his eyes darting between Finn and me.

“Sorry dude, but my wife requests your presence.” I take a step toward him and he cocks his gun, pointing it at me. “Finn would have a bullet in your head before your finger even pulled the trigger.”

“Come with us, and she may let you off easy.” Finn tries to hide his chuckle and I roll my eyes. Always a comedian.

“Wife huh?” Jared smirks. “That’s a shame, I bet she would’ve been a great lay.”

If he was trying to bait me into firing first, it worked. I aim my gun at his leg and pull the trigger. He’s in the process of pulling his so, as he goes down, a bullet hits the side of my thigh.

“Fucking hell,” I grind out, putting my hand over the graze wound.

“You alright?” Finn moves toward me, and I nod.

“Grab him, ditch his gun, and throw him in the car. I’m fine, but Natalia is going to lose her shit.” My mind runs through all the scenarios of what Natalia will say or do when she gets ahold of me. I wasn’t supposed to harm him.

I limp to the car and open the trunk, grabbing some gauze out of the first aid kit Finn keeps stashed in the back. “Help me with this?” I ask, turning to Finn as he shuts the back passenger door.

He takes the gauze from me and wraps it tightly around my thigh. “That should hold you till we get home.”

Climbing back in the car I glance back at Jared, who’s laying in the back seat moaning about his leg. I roll my eyes and slump in my seat. “On a scale of one to ten, how pissed do you think Nat will be?” I ask Finn with a raised eyebrow.

“A hundred.” He deduces with a nod, as he pulls out of the neighborhood and starts the drive to the house.

When we arrive, Finn tells me to go to the infirmary to get taken care of and he will take care of Jared. As I limp into the office, Eric looks up from a stack of paperwork and shakes his head.

“What have you done now?” He asks as he stands and gestures for me to follow him to the examination room. Once inside, he slowly unwraps the gauze and I wince as it pulls at the sticky skin underneath. Once it’s unwrapped, he cuts the fabric of my pant leg, giving him full access to the wound before telling me to get up on the table so he can get a better look at my leg.

“You know me-” I begin but the door swings open and I’m met with the familiar clicking of Natalia’s heels.

“Declan Troi O’Connor,” Natalia is furious and I glance over at Erick who raises an eyebrow. “What in the hell were you thinking?” She crosses her arms in front of her chest and glares at me before looking down at my leg.

“I was thinking that I was getting my wife the man she wants to torture.” I retort, rolling my eyes. “You’re welcome, by the way.”

She rolls her eyes dramatically. “You ended up getting shotandyou shot Jared.”

“Well, yeah, I did. But, I have a good reason.” My eyes shift between her and Eric as he cleans the wound out.

“Finn told me your ‘good reason’ and that’s bullshit Declan,” she says putting air quotations around good reason.
