“Oh God, Declan. I’m so close,” I cry, moving my hips back against him to meet thrust for thrust. His fingernails dig into my hips as he finds his release, burying his cock deep inside me. Seconds later my orgasm crashes over me, loud screams leaving my lips as I rock my hips against his. My body trembles and writhes as I ride out the blissful sensations.

Regaining our composure after coming down from our orgasmic high, Declan pulls out of me slowly. Feeling empty without him, I feel the wetness between my thighs run out of me in an instant.

“Stay there,” he murmurs, walking to the bathroom. He returns shortly after with a warm rag. I watch over my shoulder as he squats down behind me and gently cleans the mess between my legs, wiping away evidence of our time together. A whole new level of appreciation grows inside me at this simple gesture.Love.

He pats my ass cheek and hands me my clothes. “Here, babe.”

“Thank you,” I whisper with a scratchy throat, grabbing them and heading to the bathroom. Once I finish, I walk back out to find him lying on the couch with a blanket spread over him.

“Come here,mo ghrá.”He holds the blanket back for me to climb in.

Slipping under the cover, his arms immediately envelop me, and I snuggle into his warmth, cherishing the feeling. He kisses the top of my head, and I close my eyes, resting my head against his bare chest. I realize that this is the first time in a long time that I haven’t cuddled up with a bottle of booze.I wish it were different.

“Declan…” I whisper, slipping my arm around his waist. “I want to come home.”

Chapter fourteen

Declan

“What?”Iask, shocked.I want to make sure I heard that correctly..

“I said, I want to come home.” As soon as I hear the words out of her mouth, a huge grin splits my face.

“I would love nothing more than that, Nat,” I tell her, hugging her tightly into my bare chest.

“I want to, but I can’t.” Her words cause my grin to fall, my heart plummeting into my stomach. I want to push her away from me, but I also don’t want to make her disappear again. This constant hot and cold game is starting to piss me off.

“You keep repeating that, but you refuse to tell me why.” The frustration is clear in my voice even though I’m trying to keep it to a minimum. I remove one of my hands from her body, raking it through my hair in anger. She grabs it into her own, bringing it back down to her and intertwining our fingers.

“I guess your father never told you about our talk, did he?” She asks as she looks up at me with sad eyes. When I shake my head, she lets out her own defeated sigh. “To summarize the whole thing, I was basically given an ultimatum. Hand over my family business to your father and skip town, or he wouldn’t hesitate to kill you.”

Her words stun me into silence. I wouldn’t put it past my father to threaten to kill her, but me? His own son?

“I had already lost everyone else, there was no way I was going to be able to live with the possibility of you dying and me being even remotely responsible. So, I made the decision to hand things over to him.” Her voice is soft as she drops her gaze to the wolf tattoo on my chest, tracing the lines with her eyes. “I guess I’m not much of a she-wolf, am I? Instead of ferociously protecting and standing my ground, I ran away. I took the coward's way out.”

I grip her chin, tilting it higher so I can see her eyes again. “Do notlet me hear you say that about yourself again. You could have held onto the empire, your birthright, and let my father do whatever he wanted with me. Instead, you gave up everything to spare my life even though you were monumentally pissed at me. You shouldn’t have had to make that choice in the emotional distress you were already in. Life isn’t fair, that decision itself wasn’t fair for you. Making choices that are life and death aren’t something to take lightly, yet, you spared mine. You made that decision to lose everything to save me. You never should have been put in that position to begin with.”

“I know, but I was. I made the choices I did for so many other reasons. I took the easy way out instead of trying to figure out how to deal with everything. I should’ve just let you shoot him when you had the chance,” she mumbles, her breathing becoming unsteady with emotion.

“Don’t worry, we won’t let the opportunity pass by again,” I assure her. Leaning down, I press a soft kiss to her lips, silently giving her strength.

“Promise me that you won’t keep any more secrets from me?” She asks like a plea, and I nod vigorously.

“I promise, Natalia.” I chew on my bottom lip, watching her facial expressions. She’s really not in the right mental state for me to drop this bomb on her, but if I’m going to earn her trust back, I have to. I think this will be the thing that brings her home. “Actually, I have something I have to show you, but I need you to come with me somewhere.”

“I can’t be seen with you yet,” she declares. She sits up slightly, panic flashing across her face.

“No one will see us, don’t worry. We’ll take back roads,” I vow, comforting her a bit. “It’ll take us about an hour to get to where we are going since we can’t take the regular route, though. The route doesn’t have any working security cameras, so we can lay under the radar.”

She stands from the couch, gesturing to her shorts and tank top. “Are we getting out? Do I need to change?”

“It’d probably be wise. Go grab a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt,” I tell her, giving her a glance over before I stand and head to my room to grab my own sweatshirt.

Once we are both by the door and ready to go, I slip my hand into hers, squeezing her fingers reassuringly. Leading her up the path to my car, I open her door for her before rounding it to the driver's side.

Reversing out of the parking lot, I start down the mainly deserted road. It’s late evening, and hardly anyone is going to be out this way during this time of day. Which is perfect since the goal is to be as stealthy as possible. Finally on the back road that will take us out to the abandoned warehouse, I pull my phone out.

Dialing a phone number, I clear my throat when the person on the other line answers.
