“He was hurting you.”

“The only thing that was really going to hurt me was him getting his filthy hands on you. And you walked right up to him.”

“And shot him point blank.”

His voice is tortured. “Don’t you understand what I’m saying? He told me what he would do to you. He threatened to take you apart piece by piece and make me watch. And after he finally killed you, he was going to take my eyes out and leave me to think about you. Until I died. Do you know what hearing that did to me? And then after I told you to stay put, you walked right up to him!” The pain on his lean face has me running to him.

“I am so sorry. I didn’t know what he said. But I just could not bear to think about what he was doing to you. He was hurting you and it was breaking my heart.”

I lean into his shaking body and sigh, breathing in that musky, sweaty pine scent of him. It’s mixed with copper from his blood but it’s still him and it calms me like nothing else can.

“I love you, Petal. I hope to god you know how much because for the next fifty years I’m gonna be all up in your business, I’m gonna track you and follow you and make sure that my men know that they are to know where you are at all times.”

“You sound insane.” I grin when he leans down and kisses me.

“I’m crazy for you. I can’t live without you. You’re my most precious thing. I will do every damn thing that I can to protect you and take care of you. But I will also smack your ass until it’s red with my fingerprints if you ever do something this damn stupid again.”

“Noted,” I say, laughing at him.

The doctor nods and I step away so they can do what they need. Xavier hugs Tally to him and I see the big rock on her finger. “You have been busy.”

She laughs. “Judging by what was just said, you’re about to be very busy too.”

I nod my head, keeping my eyes on Victor. He holds his hands out to me and smirks when I move closer. “When I get you alone, I’m gonna make sure that you remember what I told you.”

“You’re hurt. We’re not having sex.”

His head cocks and he shoots me a mischievous look. “We’ll see.”

“You need to rest.”

“You need to behave.”

“You need to let yourself heal.”

“The only thing I need to heal is to know that you’re safe. From everything but me.” His thick, dark brows lower. “You’ll never be safe from me.”

I lean over and kiss him on the lips, my hand on his broad chest, holding myself steady. He’s my anchor. I know that he will do everything in his power to always be there for me. I’ll never have to worry about being alone. Never have to worry about someone leaving me again.

He’s solid, steady and all mine.

I lay my head on his shoulder while the doctor numbs his thigh and stitches it up. Victor doesn’t even blink. The man is a rock. My rock.

He smiles up into my eyes as they stitch him up. “We’re getting married as soon as I can find a minister and get it set up. Even before I take care of Ray Vitrillo. ”

“Shouldn’t you ask me?”

He shakes his dark head and then his fingers, stained with his own blood, hold my chin steady. “I’m not giving you a chance to get away from me. You’re mine.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I have to make sure that I keep you safe.”

A wolfish smile tilts his lips. “Don’t poke a wild animal, baby. You’re not gonna like what happens.”

I lean in and kiss his soft lips. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

He throws his head back and laughs loudly, shocking the hell out of Tally and Xavier.

Now that I’m his and he’s mine, I intend to make him happy every day of our lives. Even when he’s mad at me, he’ll know that I love him. And vice versa.
