“Monday’s fine.”

“Great.”

When dinner was finally ready, they sat together and ate their fill. Freya mooched as much as she could from them, then promptly flopped onto one of the many fluffy beds scattered around the place and went to sleep. Wyatt insisted Beth sit and rest while he cleaned up and loaded the dishwasher, then after they’d both had a mug of coffee, he walked her back to her cabin.

She’d left the porch light on, so she unlocked the front door then turned back to Wyatt, who stood behind her. “Well, good night. Thank you again for the flowers.” He was holding the vase filled with beautiful colored buds. After dinner, she’d unwrapped and arranged them.

“Thank you for the delicious dinner.”

They gazed at each other, and suddenly she wished for nothing more than the feel of his lips on hers. She wanted him to kiss her so badly she ached, but couldn’t spit out the words.

“Beth?”

“Yes?”

“Can I kiss you?”

Oh, thank God. She nodded enthusiastically. “Yes. Please.”

Without another word, Wyatt placed the vase down on the ground next to the Adirondack chair and then moved so he was standing right in front of her. His hands came up to frame her face gently. “Close your eyes.”

She did and was rewarded with the soft brush of his lips against hers. She heard a moan, then realized it had come from her as Wyatt sealed his mouth over hers. He stole her breath as his tongue slid inside, caressing and stroking. By the time he let her go, Beth felt dizzy.

She rested her head on his chest and slung her arms around his waist, holding him tightly. “You okay?” His voice had a teasing lilt, which made her smile and hide her face in his tee.

“Uh huh.” Her response was muffled, and when he put his arms around her and held her close, she sighed happily. Beth had no idea how long they held each other, but when he finally released her, she immediately wanted to burrow herself back into his arms.

“Sleep well, honey. Come on over for breakfast when you’re ready.”

She reluctantly let him go and was rewarded with another sweet kiss before he stepped back, picked up the vase once more, and handed it over to her once she’d opened the door. After she went inside and closed it again, flipping the lock into place, she peeked out of the curtains and watched Wyatt return to his cabin. When he got to the door, he looked back over his shoulder and winked at her before disappearing inside.

ChapterNine

When Beth awoke the next morning, sunlight was already streaming through the light curtain covering her windows. She yawned and stretched, the tee she was wearing riding up to show bare skin. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept so well. It had been years. Sleeping next to Miles meant Beth had always slept with one eye open, just in case.

But this sleep had been restful. She’d dreamed of kisses. Kisses from a certain someone in particular.

The corners of her mouth curled up as she touched her lips, remembering the kisses from the previous night. Rising out of bed, she wandered into the bathroom. After she’d showered and dressed, she went over to the back door of Wyatt’s house and went inside. “Hello?”

“Hey! We’re in the kitchen.”

Following her nose wasn’t hard. Wyatt was waiting for her near the stools, mug in hand. He held it out to her as she got near. “Thank you.”

Without a word, he handed it to her and leaned over to press a soft kiss to her lips. When he pulled away, she put the mug down on the counter and fisted his tee before pulling him back for another kiss, holding this one longer. Once she let him go, he ran the side of his nose down hers before pressing a light kiss to her mouth and going back around the other side of the island.

He made pancakes for breakfast and they took their time eating, given it was Sunday. Once they were ready, he took her hand and they walked to the small dock where his boat was moored. It was only a ten-minute walk, and she wished it had been a little longer. With the combination of the sun on her face and Wyatt’s fingers weaved through hers, the day was off to a good start.

She gasped when the boat came into view. From the way Wyatt had described it, she’d pictured a small, nondescript boat, and this was anything but. Large and sleek, the silver hardware gleamed in the sun. The dark wood looked expensive and it was big enough to easily seat twenty people on the top deck.

“Wow! It’s gorgeous, Wyatt.”

“Yeah, she’s a beauty.” Freya trotted aboard, Wyatt right behind her. He turned and held out a hand to Beth, and she took it, allowing him to help her onto the boat. It didn’t take long for him to give her a tour of the deck below, where she discovered a small galley, bathroom, and comfortable lounge area.

Once they were back on deck, Wyatt started the engine and steered the boat out onto the lake. Beth sat up front, which she learned was called the bow of the boat. She’d donned a straw hat she’d purchased in town and sunglasses protected her eyes from the rays of the brightly shining sun. Wyatt talked about his tours as they cruised the lake, and by the time they got back to the dock she didn’t want to get off.

She offered to help Wyatt anchor the boat once more, but he politely declined and it only took him a few minutes to tie it back up. Once he was done, he went over to the small building, which sat on the other side of the dock, and unlocked the front door.

But before he let her in, he turned around to face her. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
