Hopelessness surged through Cameron as they flew over the highway, searching for the SUV.

“No, no, no!” Becca kept repeating as she scoured the land below them.

His team was coming undone. Emerich had Marcie, and chances were, he had the real Debi too. They continued to search for another hour before finally heading back.

“I’m sorry, but we are too low on fuel to continue flying around aimlessly,” Kyle said as they flew back to the island.

Cameron was on the phone calling in every favor he could, having people checking surveillance cameras in a ten-mile radius around the motel and diner, trying to determine where the SUV disappeared to.

He had other agents doing a deep dive on the men from the bar, on everyone and anyone who could find them a lead on what happened to Marcie. He even called Cat to see if she had any insights on who Emerich might be working with in Congress, but she just hadn’t had time to start her inquiries.

Emerich had to be stopped.

What if he had gotten Becca too? Neither Genie nor Cat would ever forgive him. Worse, he would never forgive himself.

“Don’t worry, we’re going to find her,” Genie said as they walked into the kitchen. “The fact that Becca felt her cry out is a huge plus. They don’t have the head start they think they do.”

Jayne walked in from the living room and laid a baggie of electronics on the counter.

“What’s that?” Cameron asked, though he knew what he was looking at—state-of-the-art listening devices.

“Your team found these in the office. Debi must have planted them.”

He shook his head. “Were there any more?”

Walking in behind him, Becca stared at the baggie and then ran up the stairs to her room.

Jayne shook her head. “They’ve searched the whole estate; this is all they found.”

“Thanks,” Cameron said. “Any sign of what happened to Debi?”

She shook her head. “Sorry. She just disappeared.”

Cameron’s phone rang. He listened for a minute. “Thanks, keep me updated.” He hung up as Becca came back down the stairs.

“Any sign that Debi was up there?” he asked her.

Becca shook her head.

“Okay, good. They traced the SUV to a small airport about twenty miles from the bar.”

“That can’t be good,” Jayne said as Chet put his arm around her.

Becca’s phone pinged. Her mouth opened as she stared at it. She looked up at Cameron, their eyes meeting. “It’s Marcie.”

“What? How?” Genie said as everyone gathered around Becca.

“I don’t know. She must have hidden her phone. She just shared her location with me,” Becca said, staring at her phone.

“Where is she?” Cameron asked, leaning forward to see her phone.

“Heading north,” Becca said.

His brow furrowed. “Washington?”

“Canada,” she answered, looking up at him.

“Okay, Becca, you’re with me,” Cameron said as Kyle walked into the kitchen.
