“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” She kissed him then, long and hard, and didn’t stop until they both were gasping for air.

“Wow,” Genie said.

Cameron grinned, a slight flush to his cheeks. “That’s because you like flirting with danger.”

“Oh, you are so right.” Becca pointed out the cafeteria window toward another row of windows facing the forest. “I have an apartment in that wing. Emerich has one on that side that you can use, or Marcie has one over there.” She pointed in the opposite direction. “We’re heading out.” She stood and pulled Cameron up with her.

“We’ll take Marcie’s,” Genie said with a grin.

“I don’t blame you. We’ll see you in the morning.” She winked and took Cameron's hand and led him to her apartment.

“Not too early,” Genie called.

“Exactly,” Becca agreed and led him to her apartment, opened the door, and ushered him inside.

“Nice place,” Cameron said, looking around the room. “Emerich did have good taste.”

She shrugged. “It will do.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?” He touched a wound on her forehead.

“I am now.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him once more.

Epilogue

THREE MONTHS LATER…

Becca’s running shoes slapped the ground as she ran the five-mile loop around the house on the island. They’d been back home for three months, settling in after the fallout from the leaked tapes. The government had shut them down. Emerich’s compound has been emptied, and everyone who had been there had scattered to the wind.

As they suspected, Emerich’s organization wasn’t as big as they’d first thought. He was an expert at smoke and mirrors, making everything look scarier than it was. Including the tapes he leaked to the press. Once they dug in, they couldn’t find enough intel to back up the claims and eventually they moved on to a new scandal.

But the CTA was officially finished, and the Lone Wolf Security Agency had officially started. As Becca rounded the old oak tree, the lone wolf stepped out into her path. She’d seen it several times now, almost as if the creature had been searching her out.

Becca stopped and hit her earbud.

“It’s here.”

A shot rang out and a tranquilizer dart hit the wolf in the side of the neck. It looked slightly confused before dropping to the ground. Cameron stepped out of the woods behind her and hit his call button. “Okay, Kyle, we got it.”

They heard the sound of a 4x4’s engine, then Kyle and Genie came down the path. They carefully picked up the wolf and loaded it into the vehicle.

“Are you sure we have to do this?” Becca asked. “Can’t we just leave him here on the island?”

Kyle shook his head. “Emerich took her from her pack in Alaska and brought her here just to mess with you. She deserves to go back to her pack where she’ll be happy and safe.”

“She?” Becca asked.

“She,” Kyle said.

“Cameron put his arm around her waist and kissed her. “It’s the best place for her”

“Maybe she likes being a lone wolf,” Becca said with a pout.

“Maybe she likes being with her family more.” He kissed her soundly and she melted as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Okay, you’re right.”
