“Who’s?” Kyle asked.

“Mine.”

“Okay. I’ll let the authorities know, then I’m on my way.”

They loaded up the SUV with all the boxes, then sat down to beef stroganoff for dinner when Kyle and Genie walked in.

“Boy, does that smell good,” Kyle said.

Becca grinned. “Help yourself. There is plenty. Then I say we stay the night and head out in the morning.”

“Are you sure no one will bother us?” Genie asked.

“There is no one left.”

Kyle filled a plate and then sat at the table. “The authorities are in the meadow picking up Emerich as we speak, then they said someone will come by to get your statements in the morning.”

Cameron’s phone rang. “It’s the director.” He stood and walked over to the windows and talked for a good ten minutes. When he turned back, his face was stoic. “Well, it’s official. We’ve been shut down. As our last assignment, he wants us to gather all this stuff and take it back to the archives in Washington so no one will be able to get their hands on it again.”

“That makes sense. What does that mean for you? For us?” Becca asked, feeling slightly nauseous.

Cameron sat at the table. “We’re free agents.”

“I’m sorry,” Genie said.

“No one is going to hire us after this scandal, are they?” Kyle said.

Cameron shook his head. “I’m afraid not.”

They all sat silently in their thoughts for a long moment until Kyle pushed his chair back from the table. “Well, there’s only one thing to do.”

Genie grinned. “What’s that?”

“I say we form a security agency.”

“Yeah?” Cameron asked.

“We have a lot of skills,” Genie added.

Cameron nodded. “I’ll say. What about you, Becca? Are you game?”

She shrugged and smiled. “Why not? One question though.”

“What’s that?” Genie asked.

Becca looked at Cameron. “How do you feel about your employees dating each other?”

Cameron looked thoughtful for a moment. “I think maybe we might need a new structure.”

Becca grinned. “Yeah? Who would be in charge?”

Cameron took a drink from his water bottle. “All of us. We vote and take on the cases we want. We all discuss the best way to proceed. We make all decisions together.”

“So, we wouldn’t have a boss?” Becca said.

Cameron nodded. “Exactly.”

She knew he was doing this for her and that made her want him all the more. She leaned in close to him. “You know, you don’t have to do this. I kind of like the idea of dating the boss.”
