“I know, but I can’t change how I feel.”

“We’re talking dating. Nothing else. Just have some fun and maybe some sex. No feelings need to get involved.”

I catch sight of Owen coming back to me and run my gaze over him.

He’s tall.

Maybe six foot three.

Tanned skin.

Athletic body.

Well, I haven’t actually seen his body, but the way that white shirt fits him, and the way his ass and legs fill out his trousers, he’s got muscles.

And his hands.

Owen has good strong hands.

With veins I’m struggling not to stare at.

What is it about the veins in a man’s hands?

Maybe Dylan is onto something.

I could have fun with Owen.

I could definitely have sex with him.

That wouldn’t be a hardship.

I could check out his arms. I imagine they’d steal my attention the same way his hands are.

And those blue eyes of his.

I could think a lot about naked swimming with him while staring into them.

“No feelings,” I say to Dylan while watching Owen’s confident stride.

“Yeah. No love. Just fun.”

I smile at Owen as he gets closer. “Okay. I can do that. And now, I have to go. I’ll see you when you get home tomorrow.”

“Don’t forget the condoms. We don’t need a repeat of that time you decided your eggs had magical powers and you were incapable of getting pregnant.”

“Hush. No eggs were harmed in the making of that. And no babies were made.” And besides, I’m now on birth control.

“That may be the case, but it was a long, stressful wait for those results.”

“Honestly, it’s a good thing you were born a male. You would not survive as a woman.”

I end my call with Dylan and watch Owen take the last few steps to me. I decide that athletic really is the perfect way to describe his body. Unless, of course, one prefers the words “fucking hot”, which, let the record show, I can get behind.

“You must not sleep much,” I say as he hands me the glass of wine he got me and sits. The words are out of my mouth before I can stop them. Jesus. Where’s the tape I need for said mouth?

“I’m fascinated to know where you’re taking this.” He sips some of the whiskey he got himself before placing the glass on the table and waiting for my reply.

I wave him off. “No, I’m not taking that anywhere. I don’t know where those words came from.”
