When his hand glides around my body to rest against my stomach,Ilose myself.

There’s being turned on, and then there’s being turned on by Owen. They’re two completely different things.

I can’t stop myself; I arch against him. His growl of approval against my ear as my ass connects with his dick is unlike any sound I’ve ever heard from a man, and good God, I like it.

Owen’s fingers splay across my stomach, and I moan when they tease the edge of my breast.

“I’m trying to be a gentleman here,” he rasps against my ear. “But if you keep making noises like that, I may fail.”

I turn in his arms and meet his gaze while his arms circle me. “If this is your idea of being a gentleman, I think I need to see what filthy looks like with you.”

“Fuck.” He looks like he’s in actual pain. “I was trying, but you don’t make it easy to keep things clean.”

I curve my hand up over his chest to his neck, enjoying the feel of my fingers on his skin. My gaze drops to his neck. “I think we should grab a bottle of wine and get out of here.”

“I think you should keep your eyes on me exactly how they are right now. I’ll take care of everything else.”

I do as he says, keeping my eyes exactly where they are.

That is, until Poppy cuts in on my time with his body. “I approve,” she says, drawing our attention when she joins us. “But Aunt Joan will not if you two start losing clothes on this dance floor.”

“Owen was just about to make sure that doesn’t happen,” I say.

She eyes him. “Good man.” Then, pasting a stern look on her face, she adds, “Don’t fuck this up, Owen. You’re part of my family now, and since Charles is joint head of my family, I can’t have issues between the two of you. Have some fun and treat her good, ‘k?”

His lips twitch. “You are the absolute right woman for Seth, Poppy. And I will do my best not to fuck this up.”

She arches her brows for a good ten seconds, making her point. “I’m being deadly serious here. She’s my person. I will not have her messed around.”

Owen’s amused expression disappears. “If there’s one thing I’m fast learning tonight, it’s that where Charlize is concerned, you’re deadly serious. And I should not fuck anything up if it concerns her.”

Poppy relaxes her brows. “I like that you’re a fast learner. Now, go. Aunt Joan is busy in the corner with Bobby Young. She won’t see you leave if you hurry.”

“She’s a good cousin,” he says after she leaves us.

“The best.” I resume getting acquainted with his neck, wishing his throat wasn’t covered with that bow tie.

“Right, let’s get that bottle of wine.” He takes hold of my hand and leads me off the dancefloor back to my table where we collect my purse. He then heads to the bar, where he gets what we’re after before guiding us out of the ballroom to the elevators.

I don’t even hesitate to follow him.

In the space of four songs, Owen has managed to get me from not wanting anything to do with another New York man to being all in on a night with him. And since it will be our only night together, I intend on making the most of it.

Charlize

“Your room or mine?” Owen asks as we step into the elevator.

“Yours.” Mine looks like a tornado hit it. I can’t allow him to see that tornado. Not even if he’s only going to be a one-night stand.

He selects his floor and then looks at me. The heat in his eyes matches mine. “It’s your turn.”

“My turn for what?”

“To tell me another thing about you that no one else knows.”

“I feel like it’s your turn. I told you about what I learned in my year away.”
