The rest of my afternoon is spent going over the financials of the ball with Mom. It’s a great afternoon because I’m so excited to see all the ways we’ll be able to help women with this money.

Just after five p.m., Bradford calls me.

I stare at my phone, my heart beating wildly.

All the emotions that should be in that box in my heart, never to be felt again, burst free.

They invade me.

They’re like an attack, a physical assault.

A violent invasion.

Damn Bradford for not giving me a reprieve.

For always forcing my emotions on me.

I don’t answer his call.

I think again about blocking his number.

The fact I don’t is just another tangled mess in my mind I push to the side.

When he texts, I think about deleting it without reading it, but I don’t. God, I’m pathetic.

Bradford: I’m going to keep calling, Kristen.

He can keep calling all he wants.

I can keep ignoring him.

Two Weeks Later

@thetea_gasp

Shock horror, girlfriend #gasp @bradfordblack has called off his engagement to @carlabyrd. Whispers have been circulating for months now that all wasn’t well in paradise for Bradford and his bae but since their wedding was supposed to take place next weekend, we thought those whispers were just gossip. It seems though, that Bradford really is the CEO of not committing. Which, honestly, is a real mood for us. Daddy, we’re DTF if you’re looking. Just sayin’ #goals

Kristen

I look at the name flashing across my phone screen.

Bradford.

I’ve lost count of how many times he’s called me over the last month. He tries almost daily to get me to talk to him.

I haven’t answered a single call or text.

And yet, he still tries.

I don’t make an exception today.

I ignore the call and slip my phone into my purse before giving my sister all my attention.

Except, I don’t give it all to her because ever since the day I read the news about his broken engagement on Instagram a week ago, a tiny speck of my attention is fixated on Bradford.
