“Zeke doesn’t like talking about his past. Faith and I were talking the other day. We wanted to broach the subject with him but haven’t found the right time. We love our brother and only want to help, but we don’t know how.”

“Kali, where do you want the rest of these boxes?” Angel asked, walking over to Hope and me, his arms loaded down with big boxes.

Angel stood there, staring at Hope.

Smiling, I watched as Hope blushed a pretty shade of pink.

“Just set them down with the others. Then can you get Hope and I some lemonade? I put some in the refrigerator earlier.”

Angel smirked before doing as I asked.

Looking at Hope, I said, “Angel is sweet. He and Ashe were the contractors that refurbished my house. They are very talented.”

“Yes, he is,” Hope whispered.

“A little birdie told me that Angel’s been texting you.”

“He has.”

“Has he asked you out on a date yet?”

“I don’t date,” Hope stiffened before looking towards church. “Wonder what’s keeping Zeke. We need to head back before it gets dark.”

“I’m sure they won’t be much longer.”

Hope nodded, just as Monk stormed out of church and out the front door. Seconds later, I heard his bike start up before he peeled out of the compound.

Hearing the officers talk, I turned to find the rest of them filing out of the big room. Hope’s brother with them.

“Let’s go, Hope,” her brother ordered.

Hope hurriedly walked over to him as Widow and Whisper followed both outside. Making my way to where I knew Kansas was at, I stopped dead in my tracks when I heard Pence say. “It makes no sense, Kansas. You know damn well Jinx never had a woman. Why would he say something like that?”

“I don’t get it either, but for Jinx’s sake, we better find out, because if he has family, we need to notify them he’s dead.”

Glass shattered to the floor, making me jump.

I didn’t even realize I was holding a candle.

Shit.

“Baby?” Kansas whispered. “What happened? Are you okay?”

“Who’s Jinx?” I muttered, the candle forgotten.

“He was a club brother who died a while ago. Why?”

“Why did you call him Jinx?”

“It was his club name. Kali, you look pale. Are you feeling okay?”

“You told me once that sometimes brothers got their names from other brothers. Did someone name him?”

Kansas frowned. “No. He said it was his name. Why?”

“What did he look like?”

“Kali, what’s going on? Why do you care?”
