I felt Mari staring at me.

At the counter, I paid for Mari’s water.

Then I saw Demi.

“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” she said to me.

“Oh… I’m…”

“That woman you were talking to? That a problem? Is that why you used my name and disease as an excuse?”

My face exploded with heat. “I’m so sorry about that.”

“Hey, no worries. If my Parkinson’s can come in handy, why not use it?”

“Demi.”

“You do have to explain what is going on,” she said. “You look terrified right now.”

“I promise I will tell you everything at some point,” I said. “But right now I need to make a phone call to try and save my ass.”

“Is that all because of a man?” Demi asked.

“What else would make a woman like me this flustered?”

That made Demi smile.

Once we left the pharmacy I called Remi.

I didn’t bother to give him a chance to speak.

It was best for me to control the situation.

I kept it short and simple for now.

Hello.

Hi.

I’m in town.

And we’re meeting up for dinner.

Tonight.

Chapter Twenty

RIFF

Iwalked into some random bar-slash-restaurant thing.

A place I would personally deem too far away to go to.

I had my spots I enjoyed.

I liked to keep things close to home.

Remi was the one who texted me where to meet up.
