I pulled my hand from Riff’s grip and walked out of the bathroom.

Cradling my hand against my body, feeling the chilly ice soothe the burn.

A second later, Riff stood behind me.

“I wanted you here, Fi,” he said. “The idea of being away from you doesn’t feel right to me. That’s why I played like shit during that first game. I couldn’t stop thinking about you. All those things I said before I left? About you screwing other guys in my condo? I said that out of jealousy.”

“Jealousy?” I asked as I turned around.

“Yeah, sweetheart. Jealous because I wasn’t sure if you’d do it or not. Not that I would ever try to tell you who to fuck or not. The thought of you with another man? Makes me enraged to think about. Even for a split second.”

“Why is that, Griffin?” I asked.

I felt myself starting to smile.

He curled his lip.

“Tell me,” I whispered. “Please… tell me…”

“Because I care about you, Fi.”

“That’s it? You just care about me?”

Riff touched my face. Both hands.

Thumbs stroking my cheeks.

Hovering over me.

Lowering his forehead down to mine.

“It’s not that complicated anymore, Fi,” he said.

“Oh, I think it’s very complicated, Griffin. Now say it. I need to hear it.”

“I’m in love with you, Fiona,” he said.

My knees started to give out.

I lost my breath.

The pain in my hand was gone.

I dropped the towel to the floor.

Ice scattered against the thin carpet.

I grabbed for Riff’s shoulders and jumped up, forcing him to catch me.

His hands grabbed my ass. Tight.

He held me at eye level.

My chin quivered with excitement.
