I reached down and grabbed for one of the seats stuck against Remi’s right leg.

The guy was just so damn big.

Remi shoved at my shoulder. “Get away from me! Go save the others!”

I looked at Remi. “You’re my best fucking friend in the world. I’m not letting you die.”

I pulled the seat and screamed.

Needing that extra little bit of strength to get it to move.

The seat started to peel open.

Remi moved his leg.

He shoved me again. “Go. Go save someone else.”

“Not until I get you out of here, you big asshole,” I said.

Our eyes met.

His face was messed up bad.

I felt my face bleeding and swelling.

I refused to take the painting from him.

He could give it back to Fiona in person.

I grabbed at his shirt and pulled him.

He tried to wrestle me a little but I wasn’t letting go.

Something came over me and I found strength I never knew I had.

I picked Remi up and helped him get out of the opening.

I grabbed the sharp metal edges and pulled myself up too.

“There,” I said to Remi. “Was that so hard?”

“You could have…”

Remi suddenly froze and went pale.

He grabbed my shoulders and pulled me in for a hug. But it wasn’t a hug. He fell back and we both went from the bus to the ground.

Remi looked me dead in the eyes and said one word.

Run.

The two of us somehow got to our feet and stumbled away from the bus.

I wasn’t sure what Remi was doing… but I found out…

The bus suddenly caught on fire. From the front near the engine.

The flames then pushed through the bus faster than I ever saw anything catch on fire before.
