Instead of saying something, he just pushed me aside.

He then surprised me when he started to run.

All of a sudden we were in some kind of competition.

Who could get to the closest gas station faster.

Not that it mattered for Remi.

I had the key fob for my car.

Or maybe he had something else in mind.

Call for a ride. Call to get another vehicle.

Even then… he didn’t know where the beach house was.

I had the address in my phone.

He had nothing.

Unless he texts Fiona. Tells her he knows where she is. Demands to see her.

“Shit,” I whispered.

I really didn’t know what was going through Remi’s head.

I began to run to catch up to him.

As I closed in, he looked back.

“Riff, I’m not messing around anymore,” he said. “Stay away from me. We’re done here.”

“You’re not getting to the gas station first. I’m beating you, Remi. Again, you can’t stop me. You can’t stop me from getting to the gas station first. And you can’t stop me from loving your sister.”

Remi came to a halt and reached down for a rock.

I had to admit, I was a little bit shocked at first when he threw the rock at me.

I repeated it in my head as the rock came for my head.

Remi just threw a rock at me.

I moved at the last second to get out of the way.

Remi started to run again.

I looked around and found some kind of crooked branch on the ground.

I shrugged my shoulders and ran again.

I threw the branch and it hit the ground at the perfect angle.

Remi stepped on the branch and lost his footing.

I thought I’d trip the big guy up to piss him off.

Instead of stumbling, he toppled to the ground.
