In the living room.

She was naked this morning on the couch.

I dropped my bag to the floor and when I walked into the living room I found Fiona on the couch, asleep.

She had helped herself to taking the top comforter off my bed.

Curled up, eyes shut, and she wasn’t even watching hockey.

I shook my head.

I turned to walk away and something caught my attention.

A piece of paper on the floor.

I picked it up and read it.

To put it simply…

It was a termination letter.

Fiona got fired from her job today.

I looked at her again as she slept.

Chapter Eight

FIONA

Ihad my morning coffee and found some clarity.

I no longer had the need to check my email, even though it was the first thing I did do.

Just to see what emails were going to leak through.

A handful.

Two that pertained to a job I no longer had.

Three were coworkers writing to wish me well and that they were going to miss me.

I cringed at those emails.

Those three were going to get into trouble for that.

I then bailed on my phone, curled up on Riff’s couch and had my coffee.

Surprisingly my heart didn’t race at all. No panic. No fear. No worry.

For as fast paced as I acted, I knew how to live frugal and smart.

Plus, my brother was a millionaire… so…
