It’s not his job nor his worry to care about my life or my job.

Okay?

So… I lost my job.

Okay?

Move on.

I already did.

The last sentence wasn’t exactly true, but that was okay.

The whole idea of truth was tossed out the window the second Remi showed up to the pizza place he chose.

As I stood at the counter, ordering a slice of barbecue chicken pizza and a slice of plain, a hand hit the counter with force.

I let out a yelp and turned to see my brother towering over me.

“My treat,” he said in a rough voice.

Remi’s eyes were forever cold, dark, and judging.

He meant well. But he was miserable.

Which shocked me because… my brother was married.

That in itself was a whole other story.

“How can you be so grumpy all the time?” I asked him.

“I just am,” he said. “Anything else?”

“How about a beer?”

Remi lifted an eyebrow. “Go grab a seat, sis.”

Sis.

I walked away from the counter, rolling my eyes.

I chose a seat as close to the beach as I could get.

These views were just too good to pass up.

Again, how in the world my brother lived here and was miserable was beyond me.

A famous hockey player.

Rich.

Married to a beautiful woman.

Living near the beach.

Then again, everyone had their own wants and needs.

Just like I wanted to think of a quick lie because I needed to lie to my brother.
