“Remi? What does…”

“And I saw that letter, Fi. I wasn’t snooping. It was right there on the floor.”

“What letter?”

“Termination letter,” he said.

Every nerve in my body jumped.

I instantly felt myself going into defense mode.

“You know what, asshole? I was going to call Remi today. I was going to go see him. I’m not hiding. I have nothing to hide.”

“So you’re going to see Remi today? And tell him what? What are you doing in town?”

“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “I’ll figure it out. I’ll make something up.”

“Just quick and smooth lies?”

“You’re one to talk, Riff. We both lie. A lot. And you’re this pissed off over a letter? Something that is not your business at all?”

“It is my business when you’re crashing at my place,” Riff snapped.

“Oh… fuck you…”

“Am I wrong?”

“You know what, Riff? Remember something. We are not a couple. Got it?”

“Loud and clear, sweetheart,” he said.

He went back to his bedroom and slammed the door.

I shook my head.

And people wonder why I don’t want a relationship!

Feeling frustration and pressure,I texted my brother that I was in town and I wanted to meet up for lunch.

Remi being Remi just wrote backOkay.

Never one to get into anything via text. Always wanting to handle things face to face.

I wasn’t exactly a fan of the idea.

But it wasn’t like I was packing up and going back home either.

Why is that, Fiona?

I asked myself that question too many times.

I settled on an excuse that felt fair and right.

I’m not leaving until I clear the air with Riff.

No way in hell we are going to get into a stupid argument about me and then I’m going to take off.

I need to set things straight with him, then I can leave.
