“Be quiet, Fiona,” he said.

I had enough of him for one night already.

I slammed my brush down and walked toward him.

Maggie jumped up and grabbed my right arm.

“Everyone calm down,” I said. “I don’t get what the issue is here. We’re going out, Remi. Not sure where yet. I’m going to get into Maggie’s car. She’s going to drive. Want to join us? Climb into the backseat and hang out? Or just follow us like some creep?”

Maggie’s eyes grew wide.

Shut up, Maggie. I know what I’m doing.

Remi’s jaw tightened. “That’s all you had to say. Be safe.”

He left my bedroom.

Maggie let out a long sigh.

“Relax,” I said to her. “That’s what he does. Jerk.”

“A sexy jerk,” Maggie whispered.

“Ew,” I said. “Don’t ever say that again about my brother.”

Maggie grinned. “This is a lot of work to meet up with someone you don’t like.”

“Who said I didn’t like Riff?”

“You know what I mean. Not like… I mean…like…”

“I don’t think I have to answer anything,” I said. “This is between me and him.”

“With me as an accomplice,” Maggie said. “Run the plan by me again…”

I looked at myself in the mirror.

I grinned.

“We’re going to leave here. Cruise through the main part of town. Just to be seen. Then you’re going to drive down Dutch.”

“The creepy part of town.”

“Yup.”

“And you feel safe?”

“Riff is going to be waiting on the corner of Henley. You pull up. I get out. Life goes on.”

“Where do I go?” Maggie asked.

I turned around. “You go home.”

“Can you tell me what’s really going on with you and Riff?”

I bit my bottom lip, hurried to my bedroom door and locked it.

“Maggie, I don’t know what’s going on,” I confessed. “We just like to hang out. Remi acts like an idiot most of the time as it is. There’s no way he would understand.”
