She’s invasive.

She wants to know too much.

I feel like she can sniff it out that there’s a history between Joe and me.

And all she talks about is money.

Like, okay, lady, I get it. You’re rich!

And then the other voices.

There’s executives talking about tickets, sales, revenue, costs, promotions.

Then the coaching staff.

The head coach of the team.

Denny.

He’s talking strategy.

And every now and again I hear Joe’s name mentioned.

When the flight came to an end, I was more than relieved to get off that private jet and get some fresh air.

Of course, the second I got off the private jet, I saw Joe.

Their private jet wasn’t too far from ours.

But we stayed separated.

I had a plan to get to my hotel room and distract myself.

Ellen took that away when she hooked her arm into mine.

“You’re coming with me,” she whispered. “We’re getting a real drink. And we’re going to talk. Got it?”

“I should really focus…”

“Last time I checked, I’m paying all the bills for this.”

“Right,” I said. “Of course.”

Ellen then got closer to me. “I’ve got questions about Joe. And you’ve got answers.”

That was the moment my heart sank.

From a private jetto a private car to a private spot in a restaurant.

I felt famous.

I felt powerful.

Yet I was scared out of my mind to talk to Ellen about Joe.

She knows everything.

Not that I’ve done anything wrong!
