Not even two minutes into the episode and a woman named Brie slapped a woman named Carrie across the face.

Why?

Because Carrie made out with Chris because Chris was sad that Brie cheated on him with Rebecca.

But the thing was… Rebecca always had a thing for Chris and Chris couldn’t figure out how to sort his feelings.

It was messy.

It was good.

My phone dinged with a text and I checked, figuring it was Steven letting me know he was at some club or bar or cigar lounge and he was safe.

I choked on a piece of popcorn when I realized the text was from Joe.

I thought he threw my card on the floor? Unless he memorized my cell…?

I chugged wine to wash down the scratchy popcorn kernels.

Then I read the text message again just to be sure.

Anna - it’s Joe. When can I see you again?

Chapter Five

JOE

She never texted me back.

I tossed the blame onto the whiskey for what happened.

Texting Anna like that?

Not exactly late at night, but still…?

What the fuck was I thinking?

It just proved nothing was like before.

Nothing would ever compare to before.

Which was whybeforeimplied the past.

It pissed me off that a part of me still existed deep within my core that believed in some kind of innocence.

Before growing to be almost seven feet tall and able to bench press a car, there were people who called meJoey. That was when I was really little. When I cared about action figures and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The layers of innocence were torn away, leaving Joe.

Big. Strong. Mean.

Not a care in the world.

Except when it comes to Anna!

I looked at my phone again.

Here I thought for a second she would have been impressed that I memorized her cell number. I purposely dropped her business card to the floor so she’d find it. So she’d get all worked up. I wanted her to think about me. Even if her thoughts were to hate me.
