Steven literally crawled out of my office.
That left myself, Bethany, and Joe alone in my office.
“He called the cops?” Bethany asked.
“He did,” I said.
“This is how he handles things, isn’t it?” Joe asked.
“I’m so sorry, Joe. Why…”
“He’s in there!” Steven’s voice yelled. “Be careful! He’s violent!”
“Shit,” I said.
I turned and stood in front of Joe.
Two officers came running into the office.
Bethany put her hands up when she saw weapons.
“Officers,” I said. “Please. He’s a patient of mine.”
“We were called about an attack,” one of the officer’s said. “And there’s a man out there bleeding.”
“There was a misunderstanding,” I said. “Please allow me to talk to you both. I can explain what happened. There’s a positive outcome here. No need for anyone to-”
“I hit him,” Joe said. “I wasn’t here to see Anna… Dr. Autumn. I didn’t have an appointment. I came here looking for Steven. He was mouthing off. He said some nasty things and got what he deserved.”
I spun around.
“Joe!” I cried out. “What did you just do?”
“It’ll be okay, baby,” Joe whispered to me. “No more fucking around with these useless lies. It’s done.”
Joe stepped toward the officers, offering his wrists.
My eyes welled with tears as Joe was quickly put into handcuffs.
Steven hadto make the entire thing a fucking spectacle.
He asked for medical attention, which brought an ambulance right outside my door.
And with that came someone snooping.
Herbert.
Bethany ran out front to shoo Herbert away but he stared at me the entire time, shaking his head.
He would use this scene to push me out for sure now, the scum landlord that he was.
It was over for me though.
In more ways than one.
The entire thing had finally exploded for good.
Joe was detained, seated in the back seat of a police SUV.
