“You might lose your job.”

Bethany drank her vodka like water.
I sipped mine a little here and there.
“So tell me what can happen next,” Bethany said.
“A lot. Or a little. Depends on Steven.”
“Think you should call him?”
I laughed. “Never. That’s probably what he wants. I can’t imagine him actually going through with anything. He’d have to admit getting beat up by someone bigger than him.”
“True.”
“As for me… it’s just pure ethical insanity. I can get into serious trouble for this. Not to mention whatever happens with the hockey team and my reputation. It’s well known now that Joe was seeing me and…”
“He wasseeing you…,” Bethany said.
“Yes. That’s right.”
“You know, when you strip away all the legal and ethical and possible financial ruin and stuff… it’s kind of hot.”
“Thanks for that, Bethany,” I said.
