“You have to play him tight,” I called out to Atlas.

That got everyone’s attention.

“Are you even allowed here?” Atlas asked.

“Sebastian is a sniper from anywhere on the ice. You have to play him tight. Make him nervous. Get in his way.”

“Thanks for the advice,” Atlas said. “Don’t you have a therapist to talk to?”

“Shots fired,” Rome called out.

Henry skated toward me. “What’s happening, Joe?”

“What does it look like?”

“Looks like you’re hovering.”

“Helping the team,” I said. “Since you’re all playing like shit without me.”

“I think we’re doing just fine without you,” Atlas said. “Less crowded from where I am.”

“Can I tell you what I tried differently with that shot?” Sebastian asked. “Because that was a guaranteed goal. I wanted to try a trick.”

“You’re not getting a redo on it,” Jago said.

A whistle echoed to my right.

I eyed Coach Denny.

He folded his arms and stared at me.

I pointed to my feet.

No ice skates.

Coach Denny shook his head.

Which was my cue to leave.

“Just do what you have to do,” Henry said. “Believe me, we’re all feeling it.”

“You know this is complete bullshit, right?”

“We all know,” Henry said. “Just take care of yourself. Then come back here and help us.”

“Joe,” Atlas called out. “Why don’t you come out here and show me what you would have done!”

I had never heard Atlas talk that loud before.

I stepped forward and onto the ice.

Henry put a hand to my chest.

I pushed Henry out of the way.

Coach Denny blew his whistle again.

“Joe! Not a chance!”
