Adjusting the metal knuckles, I hit him where his skin was broken, savoring the sound of the hit and the wretched, broken noises from him. I was a sick fuck, and I knew it. Dealing this kind of pain was a high I was fully and unashamedly addicted to.

Every place I’d stabbed him, I beat him as well. Stripping off my shirt, I let it fall to the floor. Blood showered over me and the floor, painting me in gorgeous shades of red.

Four-leaf began to sag in my shadow bonds. “That quickly?” I asked. “Didn’t know a member of our club, even a shit like you, could be so fuckingweak.” I punched his face on the word, shattering his jaw.

His final scream was raw. The primal sound of an animal dying and desperate for life. I grabbed his hair once more with one hand and retrieved my knife with the other, forcing his gaze to mine.

He writhed, trying to look away, and I didn’t let him. “No,” I said softly. His breathing was louder than my gentle reprimand. “Look at me. You’re going to look at me while you die.”

Four-leaf moaned, and I slid the knife straight into his heart. I saw the moment life left him, body suddenly still and heavy, gazing into nothing.

The thud of his body dropping to the ground was so fucking satisfying.

I didn’t even bother picking up my shirt or taking care of the body. Those could wait. My body sang the song of blood that was quickly turning into lust. Skyla wasmine, and it was time I truly took my mate.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

____________

SKYLA

GOD OF DARKNESS

My giggles were unstoppable. The elevator door closed, and I looked down at the lock Maggie gave me. We hadn’t really thought this through. There was no way to latch a padlock through a door. So the four of us came up with a string and lock situation that was ridiculous, but would still get the point across.

We finished the two bottles of wine. I wasn’t drunk, just pleasantly buzzed. Fully aware enough to do… things.

Silver called me and told me to expect Wraith. Which sent tingles down my spine. I sent Cream Puff with Maggie so I didn’t have to worry about her while I was otherwise occupied.

Of all my mates, I had the least ideas of what was about to happen between us. That didn’t keep me from wanting it.

At the same time, I wanted to tease him. There was something dark in Wraith—there had to be, with what he did—and I wanted to see it. My own soul was darker than people imagined. Wraith reflected it right back.

Picking up the bracelets I found while unpacking, I put them on. Big, shining bangles that hung around my wrists and slid nearly to my elbows. They looked gold, but were made of ash wood, intending to burn and sting any fae who touched them. In theory, they were painful enough to make an escape if a rogue fae were trying to attack you.

We would see.

Then I grabbed my e-reader. Before all of this happened, I was reading a book calledCeline. It was about a wayward siren who found herself with a whole group of werewolves. Delightful, given my own recent group experiences.

I barely got a few paragraphs into reading before someone pounded on my door. “What the fuck is this shit, Skyla?”

Wraith’s voice came through the door, and I laughed. He found the lock. “I’m keeping you guys out,” I said.

The sound of creaking metal lasted for a second before the door flew open, revealing Wraith. “I think I’m going to stay in tonight and read,” I said, lifting my arms. “Even made sure of it by wearing these.”

It was then I fully recognized Wraith. Shirtless, covered in blood, eyes smoking with power. He was a prince of death, come to claim me. Ohfuck.

A flick of shadows tossed my e-reader aside onto the other chair. He leaned over me, so close and not yet touching, and wrapped his hands around the bracelets. The sound of burning reached my ears.

“You think a little bit of ash is going to stop me, princess? Should have tried this on one of the others, or have you forgotten that Ilikepain?”

“I—”

“You’remine, princess. Say it.”

“I’m yours.” My whole body melted in the face of his power and dominance. Something sang between us, dark and sweet, begging for me to taste it. The hovering power which had stayed with me since last night surged forward, urging me to surrender and find out just how delicious that darkness tasted.

His whole body shuddered, voice darker and rougher than I’d ever heard it. “If you’re going to tell me no, do it now, Sky.”
