After I did this it would be different. Facing down a hundred warlocks was much more dangerous than tiptoeing through misguided spells. Hopefully, when I was done, there would be less than a hundred.

Guilt struck me in the chest, and I shoved it aside.

These men were coming tokillme and my friends. Because they felt entitled to own me and anyone else they chose. They’d spent years terrorizing No Man’s Land and everyone in it. I would not feel guilt for giving them exactly what they asked for.

Energy burned within me like the world’s biggest adrenaline rush. My body shook. Anxiety, eagerness, and a healthy dose of fear all mixed up into one. Had it been an hour yet? Probably close. It took nearly half that to get here on Bookend’s bike.

I slipped between the buildings so I was just around the corner of their gathering. Their clubhouse wasright there. Standing here was dangerous. Anyone could look over and see me.

Engines revved together. They were getting ready to move out as one. “Go,” Fang roared. “Nothing is off limits. Show them who we are.”

I stepped out from behind the building and hauled power into myself. “FANG.”

My voice echoed across the world, reflecting off metal and pavement, carrying over the buzzing hive of motorcycles.

I saw him turn. He stripped his helmet off, gaze filled with feral rage.

Throwing my hood back, I smiled. “You wanted me,” power still carried my voice as their engines quieted. “Here I am.”

“A little late, Skyla.” Fang’s words didn’t reflect the desire in his gaze.

“You think so?”

“I don’t want an immortal slut,” he said. “I wanted a hybrid. You could have saved everyone, and you chose not to.”

“Pres,” someone called. A member to my left holding his hands up like a window pane and looking at me through them. “Sheisa hybrid.”

Fang looked at me with sudden terror in his eyes. Magic rushed for me, trying to make me fae-struck, but it was too late. I batted the spells to the side like they were nothing but air.

I smiled. My own fear rising. No turning back from this. Fang threw his hands out and cast a shield as I called every spark of power into my body and claimed my immortality.

CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

THE EYES OF ROYALTY

My eyelids felt like they were attached to fifty pound weights. Last I checked, I hadn’t done any drugs or let Grave give me anything to drink. Why the hell did I feel like I was hungover and strung out andexhaustedat the same time?

The chase took a lot out of me, but not that much. Even after the shockwave of magic which poured out of Skyla.

Today was the day.

I rolled over, groaning, and found the mattress empty and cold beside me. Lifting my head as much as I could, I didn’t see Skyla anywhere. She hadn’t moved to one of the others. A glance toward the bathroom showed the lights were off.

My instincts charged to life. Something was wrong.

The light outside told me it was still early.

Sweeping my power through the building, I didn’t sense the spark that was my mate. My baby girl. And the others…

Fuck.

I shoved my power through them, clearing what was left of the sleeping magic from their systems. If I wasn’t who I was, it would have lasted much longer. For the rest of them, it might have lasted for hours.

“Wake up,” I commanded.
