The open secret of No Man’s Land was that even though everyone was on equal footing as far as the law, people loved the Shadows. They never let their business spill outside of where it belonged, and they’d never hurt anyone without cause. We all knew enough to know the things they did were less than legal, and no one gave a shit.

I certainly didn’t.

And god, I wished I could pick a side. Because if I could just pick a side, maybe I could finally… give in.

Shaking my head, I shoved the train wreck of a thought out of my head. No matter what I felt around the leaders of the Shadows—all five of them—it wasn’t safe. They were just as much a danger to me as anyone else if they knew. So I had to ignore the heat that filled their gazes whenever they saw me, whether if I was on stage or not. The heat, the chills, the crazy fantasies and dreams which had been plaguing me since the day I met them.

Delta stepped forward and reached past me to grab his drink from Maggie, eyes hard. “You okay, though?”

“Yeah.” My voice sounded strangled. I was fine. Excluding the fact that I was surrounded by five fae I knew wanted me, and even though there werefiveof them, I didn’t care. I loved their eyes on me. I liked the way they looked at me like I was theirs, even if they’d never touched me.

I liked the fantasies I had, especially since I couldn’t have the reality.

“If you’re ever not,” Silver said. “I expect you to tell us.”

“And have you come storming in to save the day and break the treaty?” I smirked, waiting for him to laugh along with me, but he didn’t. Silver simply pinned me to the spot with his luminous eyes and didn’t move.

“Yes.”

I swallowed.

One by one, all of them got their drinks, and the tension in the air grew. Thank fuck I was holding this kitten, because every second that went by was one second closer to my control snapping and ruining everything.

Finally, Maggie handed off the last drink to Comet. The Vice President. He winked at me. “We’ll see you tomorrow, right?”

“Right.” My mouth was dry, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from them as they left. It felt like I was fae-struck, and yet I knew I wasn’t. One of the benefits of being a hybrid—I could tell when I was being fucked with.

Which only made the desire so much worse because it wasreal. Very real. Like the dreams I had to them. Ones that had me reaching for the toys in the nightstand. Dark fantasies I couldn’t tell anyone I had without turning bright pink. They needed to stay in the dark.

Dreams of being held down and taken because I wanted them to. Of moans and breaths in inky blackness. Velvet ropes and the chill of steel chains. Things which made me come harder than I’d ever come in my life and left me flushed and breathless and wondering what the fuck waswrongwith me.

And most of all, didn’t stop me from dropping into those fantasies all over again. Both in my dreams and… not.

Like he knew what I was thinking, Silver locked eyes with me one more time. “Be careful, Sky.”

“Something I should know?”

He leaned in, and my whole body was tension incarnate. “Whenever the Legion is near you, you should always be careful.”

“I will be. Promise.”

His eyes dropped down my body, and a memory hit me out of nowhere. The first time I ever saw Silver and the rest of the crew. One of my very first shifts as a dancer, I walked out on the stage, and there they were. Sitting in the back, as far away from the stage as you could get, and yet Ifelttheir eyes on me. And it didn’t feel like the eyes I’d already gotten used to.

I lost myself in that dance, and it wasdifferent. When it was over, Silver approached the stage and put a stack of money on it.

“You want a dance to go with that?” I glanced back at the other four men—the fourfae. Their ears were pointed—and they stared with equal intensity. “Or maybe a dance to share?”

He chuckled, low and deep. The sound shivered over my skin and raised goosebumps. I already wasn’t wearing much, and it was crystal clear how much his voice affected me.

“Not this time, baby girl. I can’t touch you.”

I raised an eyebrow, ignoring the way the words ‘baby girl,’ made me feel. “You’re not supposed to touch the dancers anyway, hotshot. But you have me curious. Why?”

He leaned in, close enough for me to feel his heat and catch the scent of what must have been cologne. That simple, rich scent that was somewhere between clear winter air and, impossibly, a starry night, along with a note I couldn’t identify. Close enough I could brush against him accidentally.

“Because if I touch you… hell, if any of us touch you, we won’t be able to stop.”

A chill ran down my spine. Glancing around, there weren’t any other patrons in the club, so it didn’t matter that I was delaying the next dancer, huddled on the edge of the stage like this. “What does that mean?”
