“Stay here. I’ll start a hot bath for you and then get breakfast ready.”

“You spoil me.”

“Always.”

I gave her one last kiss and moved through the cabin, getting everything ready for her. I had placed an order for food before we got there, so everything was fully stocked. It paid off knowing people in town on a first name basis, even if they had no idea they had two killers living on this side of the mountain.

Once Talia’s coffee was brewing, I picked up my phone to call my mother. It had been too long, and I knew I was in for a lecture.

“Leo Rand, I swear between you and your brother I feel like I never had children sometimes. Are you even alive?”

“Of course Ma, I’m calling you, aren’t I?”

“Yes, yes, where have you been?”

“That’s a long story. But I met someone, and I’d like you to meet her.”

“You too?”

“You heard about Noah and Ayden?”

“No thanks to him. I got a call from that sweet girl last week because he had disappeared on her in the middle of the night. She was a nervous wreck and called to see if I knew where he was.”

“That may have been my fault. He came to help me with a job.”

“I know I taught you boys better than that. You have women in your lives you need to consider now. It’s not all cowboys and robbers like it used to be when you were little.”

“How about dinner, Ma? What are you doing this weekend?”

“Nothing but wasting away wondering if my boys love me.”

“Laying it on a bit thick, aren’t you?”

“You are my only entertainment this morning, son. I will be by on Saturday at four. Tell Noah I want him and Ayden there, too. No excuses.”

“Okay, I will.”

“Leo?”

“Yeah?”

“I love you and I’m so damn happy you found your person.”

The warmth that ran through me made me smile, “I love you too, ma. I’ll see you Saturday.”

I hung up and turned around to find Talia standing in the kitchen doorway dressed in a tight pair of leggings and a cropped hoodie. She looked fucking adorable.

“Was that your mom?”

“It was.”

“And?”

“And we are already a step ahead of Noah because Ayden had to call her directly to introduce herself,” I said with a laugh. “She is coming for dinner on Saturday.”

“Why didn’t Noah tell her about Ayden?”

“Because my brother is half insane. I actually have no idea how Ayden deals with him, but god bless her for it. She didn’t know where he took off to in the middle of the night, so she called mom to see if she knew.”
