I leaned forward too, until our noses were almost close enough to brush against each other.

When I spoke, my voice was as rough as his was a couple of minutes earlier.

"Don't threaten me with a good time."

He looked straight into my eyes. His breath was on my lips.

I breathed it in. The taste it left on my tongue was warm, like cum, honey and coffee all mixed together.

"How wet are you?" he whispered.

"Drenched," I whispered back. "Dripping." If I wasn't careful, I was going to have a trickle of slick down the inside of my thighs. "How hard are you?"

"Like a fucking rock," he admitted. "You're going to be the death of me. You piss me off more than anyone I've ever met, but I also want to fuck you more than anyone else. But I'm not going to."

"You're not?" There wasn't more than a hair or two between our lips. One movement, one bump and we'd kiss.

"No. When I fuck you, it's going to be something you'll never forget. I'll paddle your ass until you scream and beg me to slam my cock into you. I'm going to give you more pleasure and pain than you ever imagined. When I'm done with you, you'll be nothing more than a puddle. You won't be able to walk for days. You're going to feel me for weeks."

I was already almost a puddle just from his words. These guys were going to be the absolute end of me. And I couldn't wait.

We sat like that for at least a few minutes more, inhaling and swallowing each other's breaths. When I thought he might give in and kiss me anyway, he sat up, away from me.

He gave me a look like he couldn't believe he'd said any of that, and he was angry with me for—I don't know what. Hearing it? Making him say it, although I didn't?

Whatever it was, I felt like we were right back at the start again. Or close enough to it anyway. Whatever walls he'd lowered slightly, he shoved back up into place. I could almost see him locking them and throwing away the key.

"You should hurry up with that virus." He was all businesslike now. It was almost as though the time between his first question and now didn't exist. Didn't happen at all. Like the only conversation we had was about the virus and the plan to go after Samuel Bell.

"I could if I wasn't being distracted," I retorted. If he was going to behave like nothing passed between us, then so would I.

"I'll get out of here then, little mouse," he said mockingly. He got up off the chair and started towards the door.

I turned back to my computer, but before he could leave I said, "You saidwhenyou fuck me, notif."

He stopped in the doorway for a few beats, then stalked away.

Chapter Eighteen

Kennedy

"You're going to need this." Mannix held a dress bag over his arm as he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him.

We'd arrived in Sydney that morning, on the first flight out of Dusk Bay. Mannix only told us last night that we were coming at all. He'd hustled us on and off the plane and into a small hotel. It was the kind of place where none of the staff asked any questions, or paid much attention to people's comings and goings.

It was also the kind of place visitors shouldn't ask too many questions, because the carpet was stained, and so were the quilts covering both beds. I decided against peeling back the sheets to see what state they were in.

"When did you have time to organise this?" I slid the zipper aside far enough to reveal black silk. He'd only popped out of the room for about five minutes.

He shrugged one shoulder. "I organised it after I booked our flights. It should fit you." He nodded to the other guys and started to pull his own suit out of his suitcase.

Ice and Ares would wear the same suits they wore to Mum and Leo's wedding. Mannix wore a similar one, but in dark grey. Each of the guys wore a tie that matched their personalities. Mannix's was a couple of shades darker than his suit. Ares' was black. Ice's tie was brightly coloured, but mostly red.

"Try it on," Ice said.

I drew the zipper down all the way and pulled out the dress to slip it on. It fell to just above my knees. Spaghetti straps held the fitted bodice in place. The rest of the dress clung to my curves like a second skin.

"You look hot." Ice pulled up the zipper and nuzzled his face into my hair. "I'm starting to think you shouldn't go."
