She rolled her eyes at him, but her lips curved upward too. “Not this time, love.”

I didn’t imagine the soft “awws,” that came from a bunch of the female fae and ex-humans.

“Will the bears stay close?” Fovea asked, looking at me.

I tapped into the magic, trying to sense them. They always stayed fairly close to each other—they really were a huge pack.

They were moving toward the river again, to clean up.

“I think so. I’ll ask them to, for now.”

Nods went around the group.

And then, just like that, everyone headed back inside.

They headedhome.

And when I thought that…

I thought of our warm little cave, with its incredible bed and blissful shower and the smell of both of us on just about everything.

Warmth filled me, along with the bone-tiredness of how terribly I’d slept without Teris.

“Take me home?” I asked him.

His lips curved upward, and he threw me over his shoulder.

And just like the first time, he carried me there with his hands on the backs of my thighs.

This time, his gratitude was so strong and thick that it seeped through the thin wall between our minds.

“Why are you so grateful?” I asked him, as we went.

“Because I have you in my arms again, and I never have to let go.”

And damn, if that wasn’t a good enough answer, nothing was.

Eighteen

I burnedthe water and dirt off both of us as he jumped into the cave. My arms went up as he peeled my clothes off, followed by his own. And a few minutes later, we were both buried under the blankets, completely naked in bed together.

It was absolutely perfect.

He was resting his face against my ribs, with one of his legs thrown over my knees, and his erection throbbing against my thigh. My hands buried in his hair, and his chest rumbled. It was a happy rumble, I thought.

“I missed you so damn much,”he murmured to me, his voice already fading as sleep began to possess him.

“I missed you too,”I admitted, stroking his hair gently. He nuzzled his head lightly against my ribs and breast, then pressed a kiss to my ribcage before he fell asleep.

My lips curved upward as I watched him. His face relaxed so completely in sleep that it made me happy—really, really happy.

“You’re beautiful,” I whispered to him, though he could no longer hear me. “And I love you.”

I did.

I really, really did.

It hadn’t hit me, how much I did, until I was laying in our bed alone, remembering how well he treated me and how much I’d loved talking to him and being with him.
