Somehow, we’d fallen right back into being best friends again…

And I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

My eyes closed, and I slowly drifted off to sleep too.

Teris wokeme with his face between my thighs, sometime in the middle of the night.

His tongue was hot and slick, his hands rough in the best way.

And the pleasure hit me so damn hard, so damn fast, I could barely believe it.

He slid inside me as the waves of bliss rolled through me, and I clenched around him until my body finally relaxed.

We didn’t trade any words, but I felt the wall between our emotions crack as he bottomed out inside me.

As he settled in, where he belonged.

His thoughts and emotions melded with mine as we moved together. The dance was simple—him on top, moving for both of us, bringing us both the pleasure we craved—but the release was sharper and more intense than ever as it hit us both together, echoing between us.

“I love you,” I whispered, as he rolled to his back and pulled me into his arms. “I want you to know that. I really, really love you.”

“Good.” He kissed me, lightly and then roughly. When he pulled away, he murmured, “Because I’ve been yours since the moment you stepped into this world—and I’ll be yours long after we depart it together.”

My eyes watered.

Happiness swelled inside me, so thickly it took my breath away.

Teris was mine.

And I was his.

Forever had never sounded so good.

Nineteen

We spentthe next three days hidden away in our cave, talking, making love, and catching up on sleep. It was absolute bliss.

When the evening of the celebration came around, we finally got dressed and slipped out of our cave. Our fingers were intertwined, and our arms brushed with nearly every step we took.

I loved it, so damn much.

Bears wandered lazily throughout our land, and my lips curved upward when I saw a few of the male fae scratch their heads or backs as they passed them. The bears nuzzled right on up to the female fae and ex-human women, and all of them smiled when they did.

Turned out it didn’t take long for people to accept a new group of creatures into their lives, after said creatures saved those lives.

We stood at the back of the massive group already assembled. Soft music played, and I knew we’d only missed a few minutes.

Fovea was leading the celebration, which I found fitting, given how much longer she had been in communication with the goddess than any of the rest of us.

She wore a thick band of vines and flowers around her head, and draped over her neck too. When I looked around, I noticed fae women distributing the same flower crowns and vines to everyone else.

“Before the celebration truly begins,” Fovea called out, “We will all take a moment to thank the Goddess for all she’s given us. Our world, our lives, our strength…” she looked at Nev. “And our families.”

Murmurs of agreement rolled through the crowd.

Silence reigned, and I turned my thoughts inward.

What had the goddess given me?
