After we’ve finished the ride, I notice that my hand is trembling slightly. “Hey, I think I’m going to sit the next one out,” I say. “I just feel like the atmosphere is getting to me.”

Ruslan reaches out and takes my hand, squeezing it gently to control the shaking. “I know, Vera. But we can't let fear control us. We have to live our lives and enjoy the good moments when we can. You never know when you’ll never get another chance.”

I’m reminded of his brother, losing his life so young with so much left to experience. I didn’t even get a chance to meet him, but I feel close to him from the years and years of stories Ruslan has told me.

If he was here, he’d want me to go on the ride with my son.

I look up at Ruslan, feeling a calming warmth spreading through my chest.

He's right. I can't let fear hold me back from enjoying moments like these with my family. “You're right,” I say, squeezing his hand back. “Let's go on another ride!”

Misha cheers and jumps up and down, and we all head off to find another ride to try.

As we walk through the crowds, I can't help but reflect on how much has changed since that night at the state fair. Ruslan and I have been through so much together, but we've come out stronger on the other side. We've built a life together, and now we have a beautiful son who brings so much joy into our lives.

I glance over at Ruslan, taking in his tall, muscular frame and sharp, handsome features. He's still the same man I fell in love with all those years ago, but he's also grown and changed in so many ways. He's a devoted father, a successful businessman, and a loving partner.

I feel so lucky to have him in my life.

Misha tugs on my hand, interrupting my thoughts. “Mom, look! That ride looks so cool!”

I smile at him, feeling a rush of excitement building. “Let's go try it out, then!”

We head over to the ride, and Ruslan helps Misha get buckled in again. I watch nervously as the ride starts up, feeling a little queasy again as my thoughts run away with me.

But as I hear Misha's joyful screams and see Ruslan laughing and smiling, I can't help but surrender to the sensation of pure bliss and contentment.

This is our family. We've been through so much, but we've come out stronger on the other side. And in moments like these, surrounded by the bright lights and joyful screams of the state fair, I know that we’re right where we’re supposed to be.

We're living our lives to the fullest, and we're happy.

Ruslan picks up Misha and twirls him around, causing the boy to burst into a fit of giggles. I can't help but smile as I watch them, feeling a sense of gratitude for this life we've created together.

“Did you like the ride, Misha?” I ask, ruffling his wavy blonde hair.

“It was the best!” he exclaims, his eyes shining with excitement.

Ruslan sets him down and takes my hand, pulling me close to him. “I told you we'd have fun,” he says, pressing a kiss into my forehead.

I lean into him, feeling the warmth of his body against mine. “I know,” I reply, the smell of his cologne calming me instantly. “I just can't help but worry sometimes.”

“I know, but you don't have to worry anymore. We're safe, and we're happy.”

I nod, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes. It's been a long journey to get here, but I know that Ruslan is right. We've found safety and happiness in each other, and that's all that matters.

As we walk through the fairgrounds, Misha chattering away about all the rides he wants to go on next, I feel a sense of contentment settle into my heart. This is our life now, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

We spend the rest of the evening laughing and playing games, indulging in fair food and making memories that will last for the rest of Misha’s life. And as we pack up to leave, with our little boy snuggled up against me, I know that this is just the beginning.

Our future may not always be easy, and there may be obstacles ahead. But I know that as long as we have each other, we'll be able to face anything that comes our way.

I take Ruslan's hand as we lead our little family out of the fairgrounds and into the night. Together, we're unstoppable, even if the only thing we’re facing is a roller coaster.

I wrap my arms around Ruslan's waist, feeling his own arms encircle me in return. I'm so grateful to have him as my protector in life, to know that he would do anything to keep me and our family safe. I can feel his warmth and strength surrounding me, and I know that as long as he's by my side, I'll never have to worry about anything ever again.

I can't believe how far we've come since that fateful night at the state fair. When Ruslan saved my life, I never could have imagined that we would end up here, at the same place, with our son experiencing the same thrill and joy that we should have felt all those years ago.

But here we are, a perfect little family with nothing to lose, nothing to fear.
