“You do,” Liam said. “Blueberry lemon loaf.”

“Oh yum,” she said. “Is that a new one?”

“It was my idea,” Margo said. “I was going to make it, but Liam always has to show off.”

She looked at her brother and saw the smile on his face. “No showing off. My wife is feeling a little under the weather in the mornings.”

“Are you pregnant?” her mother asked her daughter-in-law.

“I am,” Margo said. “About eight weeks along. We haven’t said much. I’m due the end of October.”

“So I know something before my sister does?” her father asked.

“We’d never tell Aunt Jolene first,” Liam said.

“But she’d have a way of figuring it out.” Faith moved to hug her brother and then Margo. “I’m going to be an aunt!” She was dancing around the room then her eyes landed on Sawyer.

“You’re excited,” he said to her.

“That is how she was when she brought Fred home,” her mother said. “And where is my first grandchild?”

“He’s home,” she said. “He has a little bellyache and I didn’t want to bring him over. He’s better off sleeping for the day.”

“Are you sure you wanted to keep him home alone?” her father asked. “You might return to a mess.”

“Nah,” she said. “Not that kind of bellyache. His stomach will make noises like he’s got gas or indigestion. He didn’t eat his breakfast this morning either. This happens from time to time. If he came here he’d get all worked up when he needs rest. I’m sure he’ll be fine by the time we get home.”

“You can bring him some leftovers,” her mother said. “It’s a pork loin.”

“Fred loves pork,” she said.

“What doesn’t Fred love?” Sawyer asked.

“We know he loves you,” Faith said.

When she said that she’d caught the look her mother was sending her father. Margo was looking at her too. She hadn’t told anyone how she felt and didn’t plan on it now either. No reason to when she hadn’t told Sawyer and he had too much going on in his life right now anyway.

Two hours later, she was in the kitchen with her mother washing dishes. Margo was in there too and the guys were having a beer in the family room.

“He’s cute,” her mother said. “And so nice. I hate to say your aunt did well.”

“Then don’t,” Faith said. “She didn’t do anything. I got there on my own.”

Margo started to laugh. “I said the same thing, but you know as well as I do, Jolene is going to say otherwise. And even if you didn’t meet Sawyer the way you had, you would have when Jolene figured out how to get you in front of each other.”

“But that didn’t happen,” she said. “And facts are facts.”

Her mother rolled her eyes. “You and your facts. I understand what you are saying, but Margo is right.”

She didn’t like to hear that. “I thought you’d be on my side.”

“There are no sides when it comes to love,” her mother whispered. They already were talking quietly, but her mother went down another decibel.

“Who said anything about love?” she asked.

Margo smiled at her. “I want to say I understand, but the truth is, I don’t. When I started to feel love for your brother I told him. I didn’t want to hold it in. I’d lost him once already and didn’t want to do it again.”

“It’s not the same thing,” she said. “It’s not been that long. I’m not like everyone else and just follow suit by what Aunt Jolene has lined up.”
