“It’s good. It’s going great. Faith is a complete sweetheart just like she was months ago. I was so worried.”

“There was no reason to be worried,” Jolene said. “I’ve said all along she was perfect.” She cleared her throat. “Gavin said all along Faith and Sawyer were perfect.”

“That’s right,” she said. “My son is going to ruin things though if he doesn’t cut it out. I wanted to slap his hand a few times.”

“What’s going on?” Jolene asked.

“He just keeps making comments that Sawyer needs to be committed to more than his job. Or spending so much time at work. That he’s in a relationship now too.”

“How is Faith reacting to that?” Jolene asked.

“She brushes it off. I’m not sure if she is really that accepting of it or if what they’ve got is so casual that it doesn’t bother her because she’s not invested.”

“If Faith wasn’t invested she wouldn’t have come to have dinner with you and she wouldn’t have brought Sawyer to meet her parents.”

“When did that happen?” Marci asked. She wasn’t sure how she was missing this stuff.

“A few weeks ago,” Jolene said. “I just found out a short time ago when my brother and sister-in-law showed up. I can’t get anything out of them and it’s frustrating. I have to all but beg for information.”

“Maybe there isn’t much to say,” she said. “It could be we are all looking into this as if it’s more than it is.”

“Nope,” Jolene said. “Don’t think that way. Let it play out. I’ll see what I can get out of them when they come over.”

“Should be soon,” she said.

“Marci. What are you doing?”

“Crap, I’m caught. Bye,” she said and hung up. She turned to see her husband standing there. “What are you doing up here?”

“I wanted to come up and see if you were okay,” Logan said to her. “You were gone longer than it takes to put linens away.”

She put her phone in her pocket. “I was talking to Jolene. I had to fill her in before the kids went there.”

“You’re horrible,” Logan said.

“Be honest. You can’t get a feel for them either.”

“No,” Logan said. “Sawyer seems happy and relaxed and that is all I care about. Now if only my son would stop talking about relationships all the time. Maybe if he found another one for himself he’d stay out of Sawyer’s and risk messing this up.”

She laughed. “I was just saying the same thing to Jolene. Maybe she can get a better idea of what is going on.”

“Let’s hope,” Logan said. “You better get back down there before Sawyer gets worried that you gave us all food poisoning and he’s going to get sick next door.”

She laughed at her husband. “If he asks I’ll just tell him I forgot where it was supposed to go. That I’m scattered. He’ll brush it off.”

“No,” Logan said. “He is smarter than you give him credit for. He’s probably positive you were doing what you were.”

She shook her head. Her husband was probably right.

“Happy Easter,” Faith said, walking into her aunt’s house. They’d left Sawyer’s grandparents and went through the backyards. She found it odd that Marci was upstairs for a bit but then Logan went up and they came back down together.

Sawyer had shaken his head at her, telling her he’d explain later.

In her mind, it didn’t matter. They made it through one dinner and were going to have just a short visit now.
